April 13, 200619 yr I have a spot open on my roster and want to fill it with a young hitter with some upside. I have a couple of big power hitters on my team (Dunn, Bonds) but I'm currently struggling in the HR, RBI, and TB department. It's a keeper league, so I'm looking at guys with the most potential to blossom. I'm not against picking up a hot hand and exchanging him a few weeks later though. Here's who I'm looking at: Jonny Gomes Brad Hawpe Nick Swisher Justin Morneau Josh Willingham Alex Rios
April 13, 200619 yr I love both Justin Morneau and Jonny Gomes, depending on which position you need a guy at more, either 1B or OF you should go with that guy. Morneau plays a position which at times could be somewhat hard to fill but Jonny Gomes is in a better offense and just seems like he's going to blossom into a massive power hitter.
April 13, 200619 yr agreed with above. if willingham counts as a catcher then Maybe him. But morneau or gomes are both very good.
April 14, 200619 yr I don't know. Your looking for a guy who has the potential to blossom, that has Alex Rios name written all over it. He is only going to get better every year. If you don't pick him this year, you better do it the next.
April 14, 200619 yr Author Thanks for your help guys. I went with Gomes. I think he has the most potential to not only help me right now but to also improve and become a real asset for next year and beyone. His walk rate is what ended up selling me. My opinion of Morneau is very high too, but I have Helton and Dunn and just wouldnt know where to play him. If he really heats up I'll make room for him before anyone else. And I agree with you about Rios, but he's another guy I'll wait on.
April 18, 200619 yr Gomes was the obvious choice IMO, unless you REALLY needed a 1B, in which case Morneau woulda been something to think about.
