2006 Big Ten/ACC Challenge Games Announced

Featured Replies

Nov 27: Michigan at North Carolina State

Nov 28: Indiana at Duke, Maryland at Illinois, Florida State at Wisconsin, Penn State at Georgia Tech and Miami at Northwestern

Nov 29: Virginia at Purdue, Michigan State at Boston College, Iowa at Virginia Tech, Ohio State at North Carolina, and Clemson at Minnesota

When I first saw FSU v. Wisconsin I thought they meant Football and I was completely shocked in an awesome way.

ACC v. Big 10 is good, Id like to see Big 10 versus Big East also.

My real question is how do they decide the match ups, some seem like they are trying to put the bigger programs against each other. Others just seem misplaced.

UNC vs OSU, nice

Maryland here will be a nice game

I can not wait for that matchup against UNC....that should be a great game.

Any word on the ISU-OSU game being moved? ISU wants them to move it since we hosted a game at a semi-neutral site.....

I might make the trip up from Tallahassee to Wisconsin for that game and stop home on the way back.

Where's the MVC/Big 10 challenge?

i've heard matta is also trying to schedule a game at florida next year.

Wisco is going to run the floor with FSU! Its going to be a two team league next year with Wisconsin and OSU at the top of the Big Ten.

Looking at the matchups I think the big ten can come out victorious in most of these games.

You're just angry that Illinois is only going to be the 2nd best team in the state this upcoming season.

Are you saying Chicago State finally puts it together this year?

Well duh, now that they're an independent I don't see anyone stopping them.

Really? Who moved into the MidCon then?

Really?  Who moved into the MidCon then?

No one iirc. For some odd reason, CSU decided to go the independent route.

Here's how I see it shaking out right now.

Nov 27: Michigan at North Carolina State

Nov 28: Indiana at Duke

Maryland at Illinois

Florida State at Wisconsin

Penn State at Georgia Tech

Miami at Northwestern

Nov 29: Virginia at Purdue

Michigan State at Boston College

Iowa at Virginia Tech

Ohio State at North Carolina

Clemson at Minnesota

Big 10: 5

ACC: 6

I'm expecting this to be the closest matchup yet, which isn't saying much :-P.

Maryland vs Illinois, FSU at Wisconsin, Miami at Northwestern, MSU at BC, OSU at NC, and Clemson at Minnesota on paper should be great games and toss-ups in most cases.

OSU at UNC, Ohio State's freshmen are awesome, as David Lighty is one of the most underrated players in the class. But OSU is going to need help from guys like Butler, Lewis, and Terwilliger to battle UNC's depth and style. Also, both Othella Hunter and Terwilliger are going to have to give OSU nice minutes, as Oden is going to get pounded by several big bodies. Alex Stepheson is one of about a handful of players in high school that matched up with Oden 1 on 1 fairly well, as Stepheson is a workout warrior and very athletic as well. UNC has Hansbrough, Alex Stepheson, Brandan Wright, Deon Thompson, and Mike Copeland to throw at Oden. Here's how I see the two lineups comparing with an intrinsic bias towards UNC I'm sure.

               UNC                                         OSU
PG. Lawson/QT/Frasor                vs. Butler/Conley/Mayes      EVEN for now
SG. Ellington/Ginyard/Frasor        vs. Lewis/Cook               OSU slightly
SF. Terry/Green                     vs. Lighty/Harris            UNC with experience
PF. Wright/Thompson/Copeland        vs. Hunter/Terwilliger       UNC slightly
C.  Hansbrough/Stepheson            vs. Oden/Terwilliger         EVEN

Oden definitely has a chance to give OSU the edge at center, but both players at NPOY candidates, and Oden has to prove it for now. Yes, I realize UNC will have to double team Oden when he's in the paint. But Stepheson is long, athletic, and very strong, and did a nice job guarding Oden in their matchup.
