Iowa State has a new head football coach. Smart money is on Central Michigan head coach Brian Kelly, but there is also a chance it is LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini.

 

Apparently we got our #1 choice, which makes me think it might be Pelini. That and the fact that Kelly still has at least two games to coach while Pelini is still a coordinator.

 

At least, I sure hope it's Bo.

Haha...I love people who think Brady Quin is the best QB in the country. Troy Smith is the best QB in the country and is by far the best pro prospect in the country. The guy has absolutely every tool an NFL team would want for its QB.

 

He has a strong, accurate arm, has proven he can take a beating, and can use his feet very well to buy time or take off and grab the occasional first down, and is a proven winner and a proven leader.

I think you're both being ridiculous. If Smith falls to the 2nd round, I'd be shocked. Quinn will go early just because the draft won't have many great QBs coming out. They are both top 15 picks most likely.

 

Smith will have to shake the legend that mobile QBs can't win it all in the NFL.

Kelly would be a heck of a coach for your team. He created the D2 powerhouse (my alma mater) GVSU and turned Central Michigan around in three years. His offense is innovative and he can recruit. Pelini would be a good choice and maybe a safe choice but Kelly has the chance to be a great fit.

I agree with everything you said, but I wouldn't make that bet. Scouts for some reason don't like Troy, and he's probably going to be a late 1st/early 2nd pick.

 

I never really figured out why they went away from Mustain in the first place. They were winning with him. While they were doing it mostly with the running game, I don't recall him playing poorly enough to be benched. I was thinking the same thing Friday. If Dick was so bad, why not bring in Mustain.

Mustain really struggled in the couple weeks before he exited the job with presnap reads, and began to turn it over a lot. That was the reason they gave, but I don't get it either. He's way better than Casey Dick.

I don't recall anyone saying that Troy Smith is not an NFL QB? I think Troy Smith will do just fine for himself. But scouts love Brady Quinn. His size is exactly what they look for in the NFL. Brady is 6'4" 227 vs. 6'1" 215 for Smith. Quinn has also showed a toughness NFL scouts like, staying healthy for four years as the starter at ND, including times when he did not have the best protection. It also can be argued that Quinn did not have as much talent around him as Smith did.

 

Who ultimately is the better QB remains to be seen. But many college QB's were ultrasuccessful and did not pan out in the NFL. So going by college performance alone is not all the NFL will look at. The bottom line is they both are very good.

I'm basically going against your earlier statement that says Smith is the better pro prospect than Quinn. I'm using opinions that are better than either of our opinions to make a case.

 

Smith is a pro prospect of some sort, but evaluating the guy more on wins/losses and 'leading a championship team' is not the criteria to really use here.

If there were 4 BCS Bowls, they'd be out. But they will for sure make the 5th one, just watch. It'll happen.

The ISU coach picture is a clusterf***. There's stuff going around with our AD saying our new coach's name hasn't been said in the media. Sites have reported its Kelly for sure, but there's some deafening silence, and other sites have made partial retractions.

ND has a ways to go. There's some nice skill position players, but Willingham has left us woefully thin on both sides of the line.

I think it will be the Rose, because they will most likely be losing both USC and OSU to the Nat. title game, so they will get the first 2 at-large choices. Not exactly sure how it works when the Rose loses both teams. Maybe they will have to choose Michigan or ND, but I think they can take both.
