Picturing KW holding onto a 73 year old Jermaine Dye...

don;t know if i am buying but you make a good case.

Reasons for keeping Dye.

1. Relatively cheap salary.

2. Had a career year.

3. Good guy.

4. ChiSox fans like him.

Reasons for trading Dye.

1. Relatively cheap salary will be atractive to buying team.

2. Had a career year, which would make him attractive if another team thinks he can repeat.

3. Yankees need a RF/DH

4. Sox finished in 3rd place. No one is safe.

5. Sox need youth.

6. Dye is going into his walk year.

7. Next contract will be his last big one and he will be 34 when that happens.

8. He is not a top shelf defensive RF and will soon be DH material.

Do it KenBoy.

No way I trade JD!

Unless the Sox are blown away by a rediculous offer, I can't justify trading Dye. He's one of the best values in baseball and I'm more worried about the 2007 season than 08-09.

Really?

If we are out of contention at the trade deadline, yes, but otherwise we'll be holding onto Dye at the rate he has. Heck, I wouldn't be shocked if the Sox talked about ripping up his current contract and giving him a new 2-3 year deal, paying him more than he'd get this year, but getting a bit of a discount in the following years.

Maybe like a 3yr 30 type deal.

That's what I'd like to see them do. Is that allowed? It certainly seems feasable... He could play RF for a year or two and move to DH in his third season (which would be when he's 35). Provided he stays healthy, JD should be capable of putting up a few seasons in between his last two years (.925 OPS, give or take 50 points).

That would be another option, and it certainly is allowed. The only problem is of course...if you up Buehrle to $12-14 mil a year, up Crede to $10 mil a year, and up Dye to $10 mil a year...at some point, we're spending so much money on bringing guys back that we can't afford to bring in anyone else to fill holes that appear in places like LF or SS.

Just remember too, we traded Carlos Lee who was making $9mil, hit .300, 30 hrs, and almost 99 RBIs for Vizcaino 3.75 ERA and Podsednik .244 average.

I wouldn't rule out a Dye trade.

I don't recall Dye ever sliding into second "like his wife was turning the double play."
