November 19, 200619 yr QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) You know, I don't entirely believe this is true. When various high profile FA pitchers sign, we're (likely) eliminating those teams from dealing with us. Potential trading partners will eventually become fewer and fewer. I'd be more willing to offer our starters when the entire field is a possibility. Even though there remains a lot of time between now and Spring Training, Williams waits long enough and suddenly he'll become the desperate party. Everyone already knows we're willing to sell. It's a bit different dealing with 10 teams now than 5 two months from now; none of which may possess the prospects/players we may covet. I'm not suggesting Williams immediately jumps upon the first offer; but honestly, we should have already traded a starter by Christmas. After that, I'll be more worried about return value than I currently am. I also agree with what your saying but teams like Texas and the Mets are looking for 2 maybe even 3 starters so even if they sign someone a deal could still be made for 1 of our starters.
November 19, 200619 yr It would be nice if LAA could include Erick Aybar in the deal, a good SS who might be ready to play right away.
November 19, 200619 yr Also, I hear LA is full of hot woman. A few of those included wouldn't hurt either.

I'm talking those guys for a package we put together, not just freddy. Aybar would just be a nice guy to have IMO, and LAA can probably afford to part with him with Wood almost ready, although he might have to move to third.

So if the Mets sign Zito, how likely are they to give up Milledge/Humber/Pelfrey? That's the entire point of dealing now.

Well luckily for the Sox, the Mets need 2 starters and poss. a 3rd. They dont know what going on with Tom G and Pedro so its poss. they would need more than just Zito and one of our pitchers. The same could be said for Texas too.
November 20, 200619 yr QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 03:36 AM) So if the Mets sign Zito, how likely are they to give up Milledge/Humber/Pelfrey? That's the entire point of dealing now. I think the point is that there is only one Zito and one Schmidt, while there are at least half a dozen teams that fit the profile of the type of players/prospects we are looking for, also while having interest in at least one of our starters. There are going to be more teams who can't sign FA starts, vs who can, and we would have the leverage over the remaining teams.
