Alright, I have a netgear G wireless router thats in the upstairs of my house. Downstairs is where my computer is and it obviously is hooked up via my wireless network.

 

What I want to know is whether it is possible for me to set up a 2nd wireless router downstairs (I have an extra one from work) and than hook up my xbox360 into that network (via an ethernet cable, which would prevent me from having to spend 90 bucks or so on a stupid wireless signal thing for the xbox).

 

Plus I assume having something like that could also boost the signal strength for the rare times I use my work laptop wihle at home.

 

I assume this has to be possible, but I want to make sure. Also does anyone know if its relatively easy to do or is it gonna be one big pain in the rear?

If there is a way to get wireless with an XBox I want to know as well.

Kind of related, but I'm having trouble getting my Wii online through it's built in Wi-Fi thingy. I've been told I have to edit my router settings, but I don't know what that means.

Cause I'm hoping I could do it another way because that adapter is just wireless A which is pretty old school (unless I'm an idiot cause I thought N is going to be the latest version...when it comes up and G is the standard version, B was the one before that).

 

If not I'll just have to suck it up and pay the 90 bucks cause I can't wait to watch streaming high def on my DLP.

I am pretty sure you can set up the 2nd wireless router and just configure it to only distribute the signal and not try fighting with the other one for command.

I bought the g version from ebay for less than 50 dollars I believe, so I think you are looking at the wrong one.

To answer this question, it should be yes. You would use that second adapter as a bridge that will pick up the wireless signal and redistribute via hard wire and wireless. Of course that is a more expensive and hard to configure solution than just buy the adapter.

Oh nice...good call. I think thats the original Xbox versoin but it works for 360 so I'm all over that one.

I bought mine at Costco because I know I can return it when Microsoft releases there updated Xbox (with HDMI hookup...wireless internet...and my guess of a HDDVD player standard). I pretty much know its going to happen sometime in the future.

Overall, should I join Costco? We're used to only having Sam's Club here but I've heard Costco is a lot better and since I don't even belong to Sam's, was thinking of joining up with Costco.

Or you can go to Microcenter. It is going to be 299 with a 100 mail in rebate (the price you pay is 399 and than you mail in the rebate to make it 299). Of course its a black friday sale so you may have to wait in lines or something.

On a sidenote, has anyone here downloaded that firmware update that allows you to play burned games?

 

I'm asking because I think it would be nice to be able to burn a copy of the game you own and just play that burned copy while keeping the original in perfect condition.

 

I don't know about you all, but even when I take the best care of games (which I do) ocassionally after a year or two of hard playing the games find a way to get scratched and ocassionally freeze up when that happens.

 

Anyway I was just curious. On a sidenote, tonight I am going to work on setting it up to stream from my computer to the tv so I can watch high def stuff I have on my computer on the tv. I'm hoping it ends up looking amazing, if it does I got to admit, the 360 is an ingenius application because not only can you play rad games on it, but you can also turn it into a total media center.

Jas another thing to consider is using powerline ethernet adapters. I have a pair of these on my home network and they work great. My brother-in-law just started using them for his xbox 360 gaming and it works a lot better than WiFi. There are a ton of brand names out there, but I just picked up the cheapo Airlink+ versions that run just like the more expensive versions. I picked these up a few months ago for 24 bucks a piece, and they might be onsale again on Black Friday. They are listed for 59 I think regularly.

The only word of advice, is if you put something onto the circuit that draws a silly amount of amps at once, such as an Iron heating up, your link will drop. TV's and other items dont seem to have the same amp pull that brings down the network like an Iron heating up for some reason.
