Is anyone else pumped about our pitching staff?

Featured Replies

I know its spring training but our relievers (Jenks, Thornton, Macdougal, Sisco, Logan) have been lights out. Masset has been good too. I've been really impressed with Danks and Gonzalez, but haven't seen Floyd or Masset pitch. The jury is still out on Aardsma.

Our starters appear to be solid, and I'm sure they will get better as the spring progresses.

I love the fact that KW locked up Vazquez for 3 more years. Everyone has been freaking out about it but the key is the no trade clause. What KW did is lock a talented (though the numbers don't show it) pitcher up for the next 4 years for a very reasonable price (considering the market). This gives him leverage with the most important position in baseball, pitching.

KW has turn into an "arms dealer" with all the pitchers he has. Thats why the door is still open for Buehrle. KW won't pass up good arms for the right price.

I'm pumped baby.

Masset has looked good out of the pen. I actually really think that we will improve 3-6 games based on the pen.

Yeah but, will 3 to 6 games be enough??????????

I just can't see the Twins winning 96 games again or the Tigers winning 95. I hope I'm right :pray

I assume our defense, and our sp will improve as well.

The bullpen is going to be much better than 2006, and will probably be really close to the 2005 team. There are so many live arms and most of the guys are still very young which is exciting.

Detroit still worries me, that being said, as we all know, there are so many factors that come into play during the season. Overall about the pitching staff, I'm really excited. It sucks in November when you hear of the trades and really have nothing to judge, but getting a look at some of these guys in ST really has made me feel alot better about the whole situation.

I think any time we play Detriot every player should bunt, that might solve some problems.

Honestly, I was a lot more pumped about our pitching staff pre-05 than pre-07. Pre-05 I felt like we had a lot of guys who we hadn't seen the best of yet, and we got the best out of pretty much each one of them. Pre 07, I feel like we've seen in the past 2 years both the best and worst of most of these guys, and the odds are we're going to wind up getting a mixture of the 2.

Edit: oh, and after 06, I'm also really worried about specific parts of the defense really letting the pitching staff down.

I think this pen is suspect. Yeah, they throw hard, but they also walk too many. That's the death of any bullpen.

I'm just excited to be able to see some new faces and watch them develop and see if some stars will pan out. That said I also want to win and those young guys are going to have a lot of pressure on them. Here's to hoping they can do it :cheers

The Rotation? No, well not compared to this point last season when we had what we thought was the best rotation in baseball.

The Bullpen? Well if you have a look at it now it looks alright. But then again at this point last year, we didn't think Neal Cotts and Cliff Politte were going to put up the numbers they did. They obviously weren't going to be THAT good again, but I didn't think they'd be that bad either.

So I'd say I'd be wary, but I have a little cautious optimism right now.

No.
