Buehrle, Jose, Vazzy, Jon

Featured Replies

To those of you who have watched a lot of spring training up close and personal and

studied the stats as well ...

How do our four starters look?

Is Mark throwing gopher balls like he did the second half of last year or does he

look rejuvenated?

Is Jose the Jose of the first half last year?

Does Vazzy look good?

And does Jon look like an ace?

Obviously our season depends on those four starters and the team defense

behind them.

If they can't go 7 strong innings we are hosed.

Are we looking at domination on the mound this year?

Can't say I've seen them pitch much because I don't have Comcast, but the stats look abjectly awful.

ERA WHIP HR

Vaz: 8.85 2.07 1

MB: 9.00, 2.00 3

JG: 8.66 2.32 3

JC: 5.09 1.53 2

Wow. Those stats are horrific.

Hopefully Jose will set the tone with 7 strong innings on opening day.

I'll make this fairly quick.

Mediocre. If you take stock in spring training performances, which many don't, you probably can't help but feel tense about our rotation.

He looks rejuvenated health and velocity wise, but baseballs are still find their way all across the ballpark.

Is Jose the Jose of the first half last year?

Hard to tell. He has been the most consistent of the starters this spring. Velocity remains near previous years.

Does Vazzy look good?

He's been pitching better recently. Strikeouts have been mounting, which suggests the 'stuff' is present.

And does Jon look like an ace?

No.

I don't necessarily believe this. If the bullpen establishes consistency, Guillen should be more willing to remove starters earlier; before their inevitable meltdown.

Are we looking at domination on the mound this year?

Probably not.

....and Doctor.

Its spring training you never can tell.

I try not to take into much the "all our players suck and we wont win a game" attitude that is going around.

Vazzy? The title of this thread sounds like a retread of New Edition.

Wait 5 more days and you'll have your answers.

I know one thing spring traing or not I am tired of losing by lopsided scores. Pitchers are poor, hitters with lots of GIDP's, poor displays all the way around. We need to get going so hopefully when the bell rings this stuff is sorted out

Most players are working on things they aren't quite good at in spring training, which is why you can sometimes see skewed stats, such as these. I hope this is the case, and they weren't actually trying to pitch all out, which I doubt. I watched a few games where fastball after fastball was thrown, or change after change after change was thrown, showing me they were practicing certain pitches over and over, moreso than trying to confuse or mess with the batters timing.

We shall soon find out. :D
