The question:

Who should hit lead off when Podsednik returns, Darrin Erstad or Scott Podsednik?

The answer, whether we like it or not is Darrin Erstad.

But, I thought this was a better question:

What do the White Sox do with Ryan Sweeney when Scott Podsednik returns?

With Pods return, that'll give the White Sox three left handed batting corner outfielders--something they don't need or want. The easiest way is to send Sweeney back to the farm. But Sweeney even having only appeared in a handful of games, I don't think thats the best decision the team can make. He may have some ways to go, but it's not hard to see he poses as a threat at the plate.

Mackowiak hasn't really done anything worth a damn this year, but he's healthy and he's been healthy. He can also tag a ball over the fence at will (sort of)--something Podsednik cannot do. That alone gives him more value than Pods, but I'll mention he can play almost anywhere on the field too.

Pods? Well, he got off to a good start this year, but does the team really want to hand him the job back just like that? This is his second year plagued by injury, he doesn't steal bases even close to the effectiveness he used to and he's a terrible defender.

All that said, can the Sox just outright release Podsednik and have no second thoughts? Is there enough faith within the organization that Ryan Sweeney is, even at this early stage of his career, a legitimate MLB hitter?

Discuss, my friends.

Yes please.

And Erstad's first name only has one 'r'

Rickey Henderson wants Rickey Henderson to leadoff

For those who like narrow based statistical analysis...

Darin Erstad as the lead off hitter...

.328 BA 1 HR 10 RBI 67 AB 22 Hits 5 BB 4 K .375 OBA .448 SLG .823 OPS

Even I can't really argue that atm ss2k5. grindErstad has gotten it done at the leadoff position so far. I wanna see it for 3-4 months though, and apparently if OzzLogic holds up, we will!! With Prancer hitting 7th or 8th. Thats a special lineup there.
