"He would get at bats from Thome"

????????????????????

Help me out here soxtalk, I was under the impression that if you started a game with Pierzynski at C and Hall at DH, that if the catcher goes down and you have to use Hall as a catcher, that your pitcher now has to bat for himself.

Are we gonna carry three catchers?

No, we will not carry three catchers. If PK and Dye start hitting, we would be able to have the pitcher bat. Also, Pierzynski is one of the most durable catchers in the game, and the odds of him going down are slim.

Hall goes behind the plate and someone off the bench becomes the DH.

Yeah, that doesn't happen. If a DH goes into the field, the DH will be elimated, and the pitcher would bat in the place of whoever the DH took over for.

In fact, the Yankees did this quite a few times last year.

It's not that big of a risk. How often does AJ actually suffer any sort of injury? If he had to be taken out of the game Ozzie would have to pull some strings for the rest of the game. Halls ability vs lefties playing over Thome's suckitude vs lefties outweighs any apocalyptic situation that may arise.

Very good point.

PABLO FOR CATCHER

Heh. Anyone else remember the Jenks warm-up story?

So AJ gets hurt with Toby at DH, how much fun would that be? Might get to see Paulie behind the plate.

I was under the impression that in that scenario, Hall could catch, but the pitcher would hit instead of having a DH. Not really a huge loss for part of one game.

A left handed throwing catcher?

Are you sure it's Mackowiak?

I watched some workouts in late Feb. in Tucson and Ozuna was tinkering with warming up pitchers which led me to believe he's the emergency 3rd guy.

There is a difference between hitting left handed and throwing left handed. Mack bats lefty, but he throws righty. That's why he plays 3B and 2B to go along with the OF.

If A.J. started at catcher, and the other team brings in their LOOGY for Thome, why wouldn't you pinch hit with Hall? Makes sense to me.

All I know is that this isn't the last time we've heard about this situation with AJ/Hall. It's sad that Ozzie actually does the right thing by starting Hall today, and it backfires on him in the press. I can actually see why Ozzie said he's sick of the s*** he receives in the media. Of course, responding the way he does is just going to make it worse though.

The media is so bizarre, they seem to love his stupid stuff (SEE: Grinderstad), yet somehow can't comprehend that A.J. AND Toby suck at defense, but Toby can hit lefties and A.J. can't so he'll see the lefties. It's pretty common sense, I mean Jesus playing Toby is the ONLY thing Ozzie did right all day.

AJ gets on the show and 'complains' that he's not playing. North agrees with him and states his opinion on the matter. Now, North is a talk show host paid to give his opinions, good, s***ty, or otherwise.

Ozzie calls up and swears up and down the dial about it.

Why the hell does Ozzie care what Mike North is saying about his lineup at 9:30 in the morning? Seriously? He's so pissed off at that that he has to grab his cell phone and call and b****? Good thing he's never come to Soxtalk, I guess.

Might as well eliminate sports talk radio and any columns in the newspapers.

If you can't stand the heat (from someone not even talking to you live with a mic in your face, just talking on a radio show), get out of the kitchen.

I am glad I missed this drama. The entire day was just working out great for me. I got a parking spot in the neighborhood on Racine. I had a morning beer on a beautiful day with my boss. I watched the game from one of the rooftops and everything was just great. Then our bullpen blows it, I have to deal with the drunken animals out in Wrigleyville who are overly aggressive for their win, and then I find out our manager has a swear fest with the former Hot Dog vendor on WSCR. Just a s***ty day all around.

How about this. Worry more about our hitters earning their keep. Worry about putting the designated bunter on the bench instead of in the lineup. And to actually look up the stats, and not make them up to support your appendage aware bullpen. Dont worry about the writers, the radio or whatever. If I had someone at my work come up to me, and I screamed at them with profanity I would be looking for another job.

So Mr. Guillen, it seems that AJ was on the North show saying he doesnt want to platoon and doesnt understand why is sitting. Can you comment.

Mentally stable Ozzie "The writers get paid to make and opinion, however North's opinion is wrong here. AJ should know that he is our starting catcher. We brought in Hall to provide a better backup, and righty bat off the bench. This is not a platoon situation. I have no idea where Mike got his idea's however I am the one responsible for making the lineup. AJ as our starting catcher is a team leader and gives us a chance to win. Hall gives us a dimension we havent had in a backup catcher. He will allow us to keep AJ fresh for the playoff push. "

If Hall is at DH because Thome is on the bench, that means AJ is behind the plate and I'm guessing that there is also a lefty on the mound.

Historically Thome is a better hitter than AJ against LHP, so it makes no sense.

This board is full of b****ing about Thome against LHP last season. The bottom line with Thome is when he's hot, let him face everything, when he's not, sitting him against some lefties isn't a bad idea. He needs to get back soon, and stay healthy.
