Props to Paulie on breaking out

Even when there is little to no motivation to get things going, Konerko took it upon himself to right his own ship. We all kinda expected that this might be an "off" year for Konerko, and he is proving that even though he may slump for a month or two, we'll probably not see 2003 from him ever again. After the incredible year last year, Paulie's strides right now are making me happier than ever that this guy is our captain and locked up for years to come.

With everything so negative surrounding this team this year, a bounce back like this deserves some credit.... he's one of the hottest hitters in baseball since moving into the second half.... :headbang

As of yesterday....

Konerko has been tremendous in the month of July, batting .380 with five home runs and 13 RBI in 14 games.

For the Season: .271/.366/.514/.880

Since April 23rd: .294/.381/.569/.950 (73 G) 18 2B, 18 HR, 39 BB, 46 SO

Since May 19th: .333/.427/.650/1.077 (52 G) 16 2B, 14 HR, 31 BB, 29 SO

Since June 4th: .343/.442/.701/1.143 (39 G) 13 2B, 12 HR, 25 BB, 21 SO

Since July 1st: .377/.484/.830/1.314 (15 G) 9 2B, 5 HR, 11 BB, 8 SO

Now add another HR and these numbers look even more remarkable.

Paulie :cheers

Can he pitch out of the bullpen?

We're now 1-for-5 in the category of "Guys who have started so bad that they can't not turn it around."

Now let's go Dye, A.J. and Iguchi. The other was Crede, but...yeah.

Paulie's having another good year and is doing his job. I've kind of taken his performance for granted in this lost season.

Since June 1st, he has the most HR's in the AL (13) tied with ARod. I also love the fact that he is getting a ton of XBH's during this stretch.

This was exactly the path Paulie took in 05. I think he's just the definition of a slow starter.

He's been awesome and so has Mack and Thome and even Jerry Owens (whose been very productive since coming back from the minors).

Jerry has been surprisingly good lately.

One thing I'm really not looking forward to is the return of Pods and Erstad, because it'll resign Owens either to the bench or to AAA. If this season's a loss, then we might as well see if this kid can keep the hot streak he's on right now going against ML pitching, because if he can, it solves an awful lot of our problems for next season.

yep, I agree. Why sit him in favor of a guy you know they're not going to re-sign? And if they are, then what the f*** are they thinking?

True, I would like to see him play more as well. I think we could dump either one of those guys for a project pen arm IMO.

Think of it as your in-laws coming to visit. It's three days of hell, but it's over after one weekend. That's what the return of Pods and Erstad will be like. Hell, maybe Erstad will even make it to the dish this time.

I really like owens over pods and grinderstad.

The way this season has gone, they'll both somehow stay healthy and hit .250 or so from here on out. That way, they'll be just good enough to prevent Ozzie from benching them, but just bad enough to prevent their return from having any positive impact on the game on the field, while simultaneously preventing us from taking a longer look at either Owens or Sweeney in the show.

And I'm sure they'll both have great August and September's, and thus be in our plans for next season. I can't wait for our 9-1-2 to be Eckstein, Pods, and Erstad next year, with Rowand batting 6th. Grinder city baby!

Jerry Owens has gone 107 PA without an extra base hit. He has 25 hits this season, 23 of them have been singles. The two doubles he does have came in his first 5 ABs of the season, not a one since then.

With his speed, in the long term, if he's also taking walks and pushing up that OBP, I wouldn't have a problem with that. Once he gets the techniques down, those singles will turn into doubles really quick.

He reminds me of post 2004 Juan Pierre with lesser base stealing abilities.

PK with another HR!

If that happens, there's only one man to blame: Guillen.

Shoot...I'd be all for getting Juan Pierre. I take guys that can hit singles and steal bases, especially because you could likely get him on the cheap (in terms of talent) and get the Dodgers to throw some cash the Sox way. This club does need speed and Pierre would be a very solid pickup. In fact, I wouldn't be horrified if they acquired a talented young outfielder (think a Matt Kemp type) picked up a Pierre for left and signed an Aaron Rowand for CF.

It wouldn't be amazing, but if you had Thome/Konerko you still have a lot of power there and you now have a leadoff hitter in Pierre (although I would like to see a guy who could post an OBP over .330 (he's really low this season) and a 2 hole hitter in Aaron plus a young outfielder who could develop into a middle of the order threat hopefully (with Sweeney also getting playing time).

I love PK, fyi...

I felt that Paul Konerko was our MVP followed by Mark Buerhle and then Bobby Jenks. Sometimes you gauge your MVP by leadership and not just numbers.
