RME JICO
All: As of today, the Daily Southtown will no longer be covering pro sports with its staffers. We will be getting our pro sports copy from the Sun-Times. Whatever remaining news we will get (Sox and Cubs in particular) and we will ship out." http://www.sportsjournalists.com/forum/ind...html#msg1440509 http://soxmachine.com/blogs/soxmachine/arc...0/10/11005.aspx So what happens with Whalen? I guess this was just a natural step after the Star merger. Edited October 10, 2007 by RME JICO
southsider2k5
Too bad, you always hate to lose a quality writer.
WCSox
That sucks. The Southtown was probably my favorite Chicago paper. I loved their old slogan: "People up north just don't get it"
greg775
That paper now is dead. Death of a good paper. There's no reason to read that paper for preps unless you are a parent. They will fill it with wrestling features and soccer features. If you are a parent, that's great. The rest of the people can read the Sun Times preps for football and bball scores and good enough stories of their alma maters. The Sun Times takes the Southtown's stuff for southland preps doesn't it? Bye bye Southtown; you were a great paper.
DBAHO
It was never really the same since Joe Cowley left for the Sun - Times IMHO. But still they had some good stuff, that the main papers don't pick up, and they will be missed.
Linnwood
Huh, and I thought "no longer covering pro sports" was some snarky comment on the '07 season...
LosMediasBlancas
My picture was actually in that paper back in 05. I was getting off the el wearing all my Sox gear before a playoff game. RIP.

knightni
I wonder what's going to happen to Palehose 7?
southsider2k5
QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 01:59 AM) I wonder what's going to happen to Palehose 7? I hadn't thought about that... I wonder if there will be a PH8? He seemed to burnout this year as the team got worse.
knightni
Smells Like Mascot is going now, but they haven't posted a new comic in like, 2 weeks. Edit: looks like he just put one up. Edited October 12, 2007 by knightni
