Just 26 and a converted catcher drafted in the fifth round from Miami (Ohio) in 2001, Knoedler has hit .273/.338/.420 in 245 Triple-A games for the Giants. He was one of the more attractive minor league free agents available. A fine defensive first baseman and lefty batter, Rogowski has hit .259/.346/.418 in 264 Triple-A games for the White Sox. He has some corner outfield experience, too, so he could make it as an extra guy.

 

Bye bye Rogo, hopefully he makes the A's and has a successful career or even just an oppurtunity with them.

I know that this was in another thread, but still weird that some say JB was signed and Baseball America doesnt have that yet.

Hmmm.... Good point on JB. I can't find it anywhere either. All I found regarding a one year contract was the one he signed last year.

 

However, I did find this piece of info on the Baseball America website. (I'd put a link, but the article is in the members section. For anybody interested in reading the entire thing, see Chris Kline's 'Winter Notebook' on November 9th.)

 

"After toiling in the minors for eight seasons, the window of opportunity might finally be opening for White Sox second baseman/outfielder Jason Bourgeois... Currently a free agent again and also playing for Mochis in Mexico, the White Sox will need to make a decision to put him on the 40-man roster later this month. If they don't protect him on the 40-man, they could re-sign Bourgeois, which would leave him unprotected in the upcoming Rule 5 draft."

 

 

What it seems to suggest is that he is probably still a free-agent, because if we had signed him and didn't put him on the 40-man roster, he would be exposed to the Rule 5 Draft. (Anybody feel free to correct this if you have better or more updated info.)

 

Is it possible that:

('a) we haven't signed him yet?

('b) we have a handshake agreement with him to not sign with someone else before the draft?, and

('c) that we'll sign him afterwards?

And in light of the comment from Chris Kline, if we did sign Bourgeois and didn't put him on the 40-man, he would be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft.

 

So... something needs to get cleared up. If Kline is right about the rule... and we did sign JB, I'm assuming we would have protected him.

They signed him for sure, to a minor league deal. He was taken once before in a Rule 5, Dec. 2005 by Seattle from the Braves.

 

Then, he was signed as a minor league free agent by the White Sox last winter.

 

Further I would find it strange the White Sox would sign this guy to a minor league deal only to expose him to the Rule 5. If he were exposed, surely he'd be selected based on his play in '07 and his winter league performance. I do know Regier likes him and I don't think the $50k claim fee means that much to the White Sox.

 

Hmmm ... thinking about this for a few minutes, here's what I think the situation is:

 

There is a distinct difference between declaring as a minor league free agent (6 years) vs. eligibility for the Rule 5 draft (4 years for the sake of simplicity). Bourgeois was drafted in 2000 so that he was a minor league free agent makes sense. I do not think all minor league free agents are part of the Rule 5 pool. For example, there was a guy the White Sox signed every year to play in Charlotte, Ernie Young. Ernie is in his late 30's and every year for the last few he signed with the White Sox. But I highly doubt Ernie was eligible for the Rule 5, the Players Association would raise a ruckus about that.

 

Based on that, I doubt Bourgeois is eligible for the Rule 5. In my take, he was simply a minor league free agent who chose to sign with the White Sox.

 

I will close by saying I don't know for sure, but it makes sense to me.

I dont know if he was a sox fan or not. But he was a good guy.

 

I played against him at Lewis. He was incredibly gifted at that level, he had a pretty good arm covered a lot of ground in the outfield, and looked like he would do something in the minors. Then he became a career minor leaguer. He was one guy that I thought would of progressed. He hit a bomb off of me that luckily hit a tree, or it may have hurt a car driving by.

 

I thought he went to De La Salle, but he actually went to Mendel Catholic. So the probability is high that he was a sox fan.

Probably. Makes perfect sense (sarcasm). Birmingham in 2006, Winston-Salem in 2007, Charlotte in 2008. It's the f'ing hokey pokey.

Well, Micah should have been in B'ham in 2007, don't know why he was demoted. Collaro is actually competent in RF. He would probably be a butcher at 1B.
