If Sanchez, Gomes, or Orlando dont have big years I think they all become non-prospects if that isnt the case already.

It's really hard to get interested in the Sox minor league system this year.

I think Javier Colina will start at third base. Just a hunch. You don't have a 29 year old at high A ball to ride the bench.

Nah. Not after the season Retherford had last year. They're not jumping him a level to sit him.

I think Colina is just insurance against Retherford's adjustment to better pitching hitting a speed bump.

I'm excited about the Sox minor league system this year.

I think there is alot more depth and balance than there was in 2007.

Winston-Salem and Kannapolis have good young talent and should be very interesting to watch.

Ditto Birmingham's pitching staff... and the Barons should have a much improved offense this year.

IMO, the Sox farm system is weaker than average at the upper (AA and AAA) levels because of trades, but not nearly as bad as some of the so-called 'experts' in the media suggest.

there are a few on this squad to get excited about though...

Aaron Poreda, P

Francisco Hernandez, C

Sergio Miranda, SS

C.J. Retherford, 3B

John Shelby, 2B

Salvador Sanchez, OF

I see some significant MLB potential among those folks, to varying degrees.

Absolutely. These are players that are likely to start hitting fans radar screens this year. I'd keep an eye on Brandon Allen too. He's still young and he took big developmental steps last year.

Last year, Great Falls and Kannapolis (in that order) were my favorite teams in the system.

This year, I'm guessing it will be Winston-Salem 1st, and then Kanny 2nd.

Brandon Allen is right out of the Josh Fields/Adam Dunn mold, but he HAS to cut down on strikeouts to really start to move up.

Yeah, there are always guys of interest, but not that many that have me really excited right now. All the guys of interest from last year are gone (sans Egbert). It's up to the guys from rookie ball, which I take a wait and see approach with, to make things interesting. I'm not saying they won't, but it's really hard to predict.
