Chicago makes it to the Final Four for the 2016 Olympic Games

I really hope that a miracle happens and we get it. The event would do wonders for the development in this city, especially with public transportation. Of course our real estate market would be a nice bonus.

My wife and I already decided we would rent our house out for the time and head on down to Disney!

Unless I can score some tix to Female Beach Volleyball...

If atlanta can get the games, I don't see why we can't.

Because it has nothing to do with Boston or NYC.

deadspin always posts the espn.com comment of the day that espn puts on the main page, it's 99% hysterical. It's either some ridiculous not-based-in-fact opinion or the blatant stating of the obvious

I'll repeat what I've been saying since the early process. The two real players here are Chicago and Rio. Tokyo bids EVERY year, Japan had the winter at Nagano not too long ago, and Beijing is having the summer games very soon - Asia PAC just isn't getting another summer Olympics that quickly. The last summer Olympics in the western hemisphere was 1996, which will be 20 years (5 cycles) in 2016. The only real worry is Rio - there has never been an Olympics in South America, ever. But, Rio is having MAJOR crime wave problems, so... I think Chicago has a very good shot.

What a mess the city will be will all of the people. Thank God I'll be in Florida at that time...

Oh yeah, my loop condo will be rented out. Im just excited for the transportation improvements, and for all us sox fans out here, the southside area near the park will be COMPLETELY different due to the lakefront changes.

If the President of the United States is from Chicago the airport will be built in Peotone with some express route to downtown Chicago and the Olympics will be granted to them.

People that complain about the impact it will have on the city do not fully understand the magnitude of positive benefit it can have.

To have the Olympics in smaller cities, can kill their economy. In the right situation it can be used as an economic springboard.

I think Obama winning in November could do huge wonders to the Chicagoland area for the remainder of my lifetime and I am 37.

Not having daily derailments would be nice...

The Olympics in Chicago would be so huge for the entire region. There is so much good that would come from this, besides the obvious. Also worth noting that London was dead last of the finalists at this stage of the process for the 2012 games.

Likewise

Man, I would love if the Olympics came to Chicago in my lifetime. Who knows when the next time the city will get it is?

One of the couple big weaknesses in the Chicago bid was cited as transit and transportation. This plays perfectly into Chicago's hands. They can go with that to Washington and get a metric f***-ton of money for transit, which the city needs anyway. Plus, if Obama is elected President... Chicago will get every dime it asks for.

NOTE: Not trying to endorse a candidate here, just saying, if that happens to occur, it helps the city and the Olympic cause.

Yup. The El system needs a drastic overhaul, it needs expansion into other parts of the city other than the 3 lines that go up north, and the entire southside needs more direct public routes.

Metra and Amtrak I assume will get an improvement as well.

Maybe a monorail??????? jk

I would kill for the EL to be something like DC's train system.
