July 4, 200817 yr Indians designated RHP Joe Borowski for assignment. It says a lot about how overdue the move was that Borowski goes from closing games to off the roster completely, but the Indians stuck with him in the ninth inning for 1 1/2 seasons despite a 5.57 ERA in 82 1/3 frames, including a hideous 7.56 mark this year. Based on performance alone he should struggle to find another big league job initially, but given that he's a "proven closer" you never know. Masa Kobayashi now looks like the favorite for saves, although manager Eric Wedge has yet to officially name a replacement closer and both Rafael Perez and Rafael Betancourt could also be in the mix.
July 4, 200817 yr yeah this was pretty much bound to happen whether the Indians were competing or not
July 5, 200817 yr Joe Borowski is just flat-out horrible. I honestly can't believe the success he's had the past few years.
July 7, 200817 yr QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) This makes me sad, like when the Tigers traded Grilli. Maybe he can sign with the Twins or Tigers to make us all feel better
July 7, 200817 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 06:38 AM) Maybe he can sign with the Twins or Tigers to make us all feel better If he signed with the Twins he'd magically become the best setup man in the division.
