July 9, 200322 yr From the Daily Herald: Mound mystery: The White Sox play a doubleheader at Cleveland on Saturday, and manager Jerry Manuel knows Mark Buehrle is going to take the mound in Game 1. But the Sox are going to wait and see what happens over the next three games before naming a starting pitcher for Game 2. If the bullpen is fresh, long reliever Gary Glover is likely to get the nod. If not, the White Sox are expected to call on a minor-league pitcher to make the start. Even though he's scheduled to pitch in Sunday's All-Star Futures Game at U.S. Cellular Field, left-hander Neal Cotts is a strong possibility. Cotts is 8-3 with a 1.97 ERA in 15 starts at Class AA Birmingham this season. That's it. Screw the kid up and bring him to the Bigs too early like John Rauch. Its just a spot start so in this case its no big deal. There isn't really any risk in bringing him up because its not a permanent thing. I think they would probably be best off with Josh Stewart if his stamina is back by then, but it coudl be rushing it. Ginter wouldn't be a bad option either but he's been pitching relief all season. If they don't go with any of those options then I'd say Brian Cooper or Felix Diaz would get the nod. I'd love to see Diaz.

I just don't like putting Cotts on the 40-man an earlier than is necessary, unless they really think he can help them this year. More than likely, they will go with either Stewart or the Glover/White combo.
