No I still think Bush is up there at #1 with the "fool me once" gaffe. That one might never be topped in my lifetime.

Frankly, it's not even close. The only one I'd say goes up there with it is the legendary "We begin bombing in 5 minutes" and "I am not a crook".

I am not a huge Biden fan. I think he has some baggage (plagiarism, bankruptcy bill) but by and large he makes sense as a good pick.

 

Can't attack Biden on family values, can't attack Biden on experience, and Biden adds the same level of foreign policy expertise that Dick Cheney did to a Bush nomination in 2000.

I'm probably less of a Biden fan than most people here. Really never liked him and he's never given me reason to. I would honestly have preferred almost anyone else from the field, and I'd really have preferred a surprise choice somehow.

 

I understand why he made the pick. It's the safest choice, it almost guarantees a win in the VP debate because the only thing weaker than the Dem VP selection field is the Republican VP selection field (seriously, Biden vs. Romney/Huckabee/Pawlenty/Jindal?), and at least he is suited to his one constitutional job...being ready to take over in the crisis that hits if the President is incapacitated.

 

But honestly, it's not like I'm voting based on the VP, but if I were, I'd be a little less likely to vote for that ticket today than last night.

I think a number of factors:

1) Religious Vote

2) The people that believe Obama is a Muslim

3) Yea, Romney might be part of it.

It's part of the base that he still hasn't solidified... and he still has to deal with those "Obama is a secret Muslim terrorist" rumors that won't go away.

The top names are usually Romney, Huckabee, Jindal, Pawlenty, Charlie Crist, and then beyond that it gets even more obscure unless he can talk Petraeus in to rocking it. Tom Ridge is out there, but he's pro-choice. Then there's Holy Joe.

 

McCain's going to run on how important experience is in this race, how we need his skill to deal with times of crisis and how Obama's just an inexperienced (Muslim) celebrity. Who from that list isn't exactly what he's hitting Obama on? Bunch of poorly known governors who you pick to try to pick up a state, and a couple of slightly bigger names who would absolutely piss off the base.

 

Pick a name from McCain's possible list...and picture him having to hold his ground in a debate with Biden when the questions are asked about what in their experience prepares them to take over for the President in the event of a crisis. Romney at least has a solid business background to go along with his governorship. But frankly, there's not a looker in the bunch.

depends on how it is built. Most of that stuff is normally database heavy. It would be a"simple" transition for experts in my opinion. But from a time and money stand point it's just easier to stay home.
