Plan for Danks?

Once he's arb-eligible, his game will improve dramatically. He won't have to say a word.

Just make it rain a few hundos.

Ozzie needs to be extremely careful with Danks, whose arm may not be conditioned to throw 180-200 innings. Given the Sox's current division race, this puts Ozzie in a bit of a bind. But I think that he needs to consider skipping Danks a couple of times in September.

Out of curiousity, is there anywhere that actually lists his pitch totals from last year (more specifically to this point in the year) versus this year? Just off of the top of my head I am remembering a lot of starts where Danks went 100-110 pitches, but only made it 4-5 innings. This year he seems to usually be hitting the 100 pitch mark a couple of innings later, usually in the 6th or 7th. It doesn't seem like his pitch totals are going up at all, just his innings pitched. I imagine that stat about the increase in innings is more to do with extra wear and tear on the arm, but if he isn't really throwing anymore pitches, is he getting really anymore wear?

Does anyone have the numbers to back me up, or to prove me wrong??? I really would like to know.

2007: 139 IP, 2407 Pit, 17.32 Pit/IP

2008: 160.7 IP, 2612 Pit, 16.36 Pit/IP

2007: 17.32 X 160.7 = 2783 Pit

2008: through 160.7 = 2612 Pit

So yeah, John is throwing less pitches per inning pitched this season as compared to last. He's actually throwing more pitches per plate appearance this year (3.93) than last year (3.87) but he's facing less batter per IP this year (4.13) than last (4.47).

So to sum it up nicely:

2007: 156 Pit/9IP

2008: 147 Pit/9IP

Awesome!

Thanks for finding that. That makes me a lot less worried about Danks.
