One sort of interesting development...

Mike MacDougal seems to have gotten his **** back together lately.

Seriously.... I'm not pulling your leg.

In his last 10 outings covering 15 2/3 innings, he's only given up 4 runs (2.30 ERA).

In addition, he's struck out 25 while only walking 9.

So... his WHIP is 1.21 during this stretch; his K/9 is 14.36.

What a huge bonus it would be if he could come up September 1 and make a contribution to the pen.

He's been starting too. Even though he's pitched no more than 3 innings in a start.

Ehren Wassermann got the win tonight, his ERA is 1.15 now.

Oh yeah, Boone Logan 2 innings 4 runs.

Nobody even mentioned Poreda huh? He has a sub 3 ERA now. Went 6IP 1ER 5k's

I wonder if he's been developing any secondary pitches, or if they're just having him focus on fastball/slider and have him pegged to be a reliever. I'd honestly hate to have spent a first round pick on another Matt Thornton.

I noticed that he's pitched over 160 innings this year with no apparent arm troubles. That's nice to know that he's healthy because of the arm troubles he was predicted to have. That's not to say that he'll never get hurt but still he's made it though almost an entire season injury free.

Phil Rogers indicates that this is the case in the most recent organisational report on Baseball America:

Once considered a one-pitch guy with a high-90s fastball, Poreda has since made improvement with two secondary pitches, a power slider and a changeup. He had 20 strikeouts and two walks in one three-start stretch.
