    Interesting. Although the map shows a small quantity of respondants and was taken from five years ago, you can pretty much differentiate the favorable term for different regions of the country. Pop being the most dominate one overall.

     

    Personally I would always incline to saying "pop" but later went back to "soda."

    We talked about this when I was still in school once. It's kinda the same as calling all tissues Kleenex or all bandages Band-Aid or all cotton swabs Q-tips.

     

    They are specifec product names but have gradually become used as the generic name for all.

    Check a detailed map of the area, there is little more than a town that kind of juts into Canada.
