I'd put my money on Armstrong, for now. They'll overlook the Righty/Lefty thing if he swings the bat during spring training.

The past 2 seasons? Sure. The first 9 years of his pro career? They tell a different tale, a tale of suck against left handed pitching, lots of suck in fact, like .248/.274/.350/.623 worth of suck. Now that's a lot of suck.

Phils just got Ronny Paulino and already had Carlos Ruiz as their main guy, with Lou Marson in AAA waiting in the wings. The odd guy out is Chris Coste who is a fine backup.

Still scratching my head as to why the DBacks took the catcher from the Tigers in the Rule 5...but they now have 3 catchers on there roster. I honestly doubt they'd find anybody to take Chris Snyder and his $1.85M salary...but I'd be interested in Miguel Montero. They need pitching badly.

If the Diamondbacks would be willing to give away Snyder for one of our s***ting AA/AAA pitching "prospects" I'd do it. At least Snyder has some good power and plate discipline against left handed pitching and can throw out >30% of would be basestealers.

Snyder's salary is over $1.85M I believe...but on the flip side...he's a hell of a lot better than Toby for the money. Word out here was the DBacks were shopping Snyder anyway.

Yeah Snyder would be a very good option to go for.

 

My guess is the D-Backs would want some bullpen help or some young pitching in exchange for him.

Now that we've used one of our bullets to acquire Flowers, it makes little sense to acquire a quality prospect when all we need is a reasonable 1-2 year solution as a backup.

Even in that case, I think it makes little sense to pile up catching prospects until he proves he can't handle that spot.

 

Simple way to look at it IMO: what would you rather have for the next 2 years. Someone else to fill the 4/5 starter role, or someone to fill the backup catcher role behind AJ if Flowers can't cut it?

Definitely the 4/5 starter role. Just dreaming a little. The Rangers are really loaded at catcher right now.

the Sox don't really seem to care about defense behind the plate so long as he produces. AJ Pierzynski definitely isn't good defensively, but he hits and he handles pitchers. That's all Flowers has to show the capability of doing. If he does that, he's golden.

Chris Coste. I completely agree. I was hoping the Sox would get him when they signed Toby Hall. Coste would be perfect for the Sox. And, he'd come as cheap as anyone.

Henry Blanco's brother was murdered in Venezuela about 3 weeks ago, I assume that has something to do with the lack of rumors involving Hank White.

I would guess it's closer to zero than 50/50. It's a tough break for Lucy, but from the sounds of it, it's a pretty devastating injury.

 

Those odds aren't long-term...I have no idea what type of character person Lucy is or how hard he works, so I can't comment in that regard, but if he's a hard worker, I imagine he'll get a shot at some point in time in some organization.

Dislocated knee caps pretty much jack you up forever. It's one of those injuries that becomes more likely to re-occur when/every time it happens. It's happened to me many times, and it sucks horribly every time. Unless he got surgery and REALLY works his ass off to rehab it, it's unlikely he'll ever be a MLB catcher.
