February 14, 200917 yr I was thinking about why the White Sox lack of deals this offseason on the trade front, do any of you think it's because other GMs are afraid? After Gavin Floyd, Danks and TCQ, havn't teams learned their lesson? P.S-Great to be on board soxtalk.

Glad to have those guys you mention though and welcome aboard Edited February 14, 200917 yr by elrockinMT
February 14, 200917 yr It is very possible but I don't think GMs are afraid to trade away who they think is finished. But if you a get a call from Kenny about a prospect you have about given up on, I think they'll work harder to pan him out now. Seeing how Kenny stole those 3 players, no other team wants that egg on their face now.

February 14, 200917 yr QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 14, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) I don't think the Rangers gave up on Danks. Jon Daniels said that they saw McCarthy as a major league starter on the day the trade was made, whereas he say Danks being 2-3 years away.

February 14, 200917 yr Kenny's lurking in the weeds like a lion waiting to POUNCE on the right deal!!!

As for your question, it takes two, and sometimes even more than that, to make a trade. I have no doubt in my mind Kenny and co have explored dozens of possible trade scenarios (how many different JD rumors have we had the last 3 months)? Can't make a trade just to make a trade.
February 15, 200917 yr I remember how pissed I was about BMac getting traded and I am so happy I was dead wrong. That was amazing. As far as this offseason, I think theyre projecting poor attendance or something.
February 15, 200917 yr Author QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Feb 14, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) I remember how pissed I was about BMac getting traded and I am so happy I was dead wrong. That was amazing. As far as this offseason, I think theyre projecting poor attendance or something. The thing I don't get is that they really havn't spent a single dollar this off-season, excluding the Dayan signing. Could it really be poor attendance projections?
February 15, 200917 yr I personally feel that the owners are using this sluggish economy as an excuse to try to shrink payrolls. After the success of the D-rays last year and their small payroll clubs want to try to go young and shrink their own payroll. Thus, the whitesox are hoping their youth will succeed for it does, Reinsdorf's profits will be much much larger. But hey its just a theory, right? Go Sox, and lets prove all these early projections wrong!
February 16, 200917 yr Gavin needed a change of scenery, plain and simple. If you don't succeed right away in Philly...those fans will eat you alive. With TCQ, I don't think the D-Backs gave up on him, they just had proven talent ahead of him and with his injury history, they probably figured it was time to move on. That's not saying that they didn't see potential, they just saw him as a 4th or 5th outfielder until one of the other ones moved on.

February 16, 200917 yr QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) Sorry to disagree, but Philadelphia booed Santa. They are hateful sports fans. Just ask Donovan McNabb. Oh I know. But Chicago is right behind Philly in terms of dumb fans with ridiculous expectations. I laugh about the annual McNabb to Chicago rumors, as if he'd be treated much better in Chicago if he was always hurt, or didn't win in the playoffs.
