They are trying to find someone to substitute for George W Bush as the strawman for all of their arguements. They need a demon to point at and blame for all of their ills. It looks like they are going to substitute Rush for Bush, and anyone else who dares to speak out against them. It saves them from actually addressing the points that people like Cramer and Santelli are making.

At least they are responding to critics on issues, not just calling them unpatriotic and "we have a country to defend"

I actually came across the context of an interview with a talk show host calling Rush Limbaugh unpatriotic, and trying to get the conservative he was interviewing to agree... Thanks David Shuster.

How many people did W call unpatriotic exactly?

How many people did Obama?

The press secretaries and cabinet officers routinely belittled criticism with "we are trying to defend the country" and brought in calls of patriotism.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if W. did speak of unpatriotic critics.

Well it looks like Obama called all but three Republicians not patriotic when he called the three who were voting for the stimulus plan "patriotic".

Mr. Obama called Ms. Collins and Mr. Specter, as well as Senator Olympia J. Snowe of Maine, another Republican expected to support the deal, to acknowledge they were acting against pressure from their party and, one official said, to thank them for their patriotism in helping advance the bill at a critical time.

Let us also not forgot Joe Biden during the campaign saying it was patriotic to pay more in taxes.
