Rick Ankiel...

Featured Replies

I don't know if anyone else saw this last night on MLB Network, but they had Ken Rosenthal on. He suggested, and I'm guessing this is pure speculation on his part, that the White Sox trade for Rick Ankiel. Thoughts?

No thanks.

No thanks.

I am going to be the minority here...

No Thanks.

I think this was brought up before.

Looking at Cardinals it makes sense because their outfield is pretty crowded with Duncan, Ludwick, Ankiel, and Rasmus, one of them becomes somewhat expandable.

No Thanks.

What if he came cheap?

I like the idea.

1 Salary is right

2 His stock is LOW. We can probably get him for close to nothing

3 He is a left handed Pull hitter, which works well at our park

Do it Kenny!

If he comes somewhat cheap, I'd take him. Can play all 3 OF positions, and we can wave bye-bye to Wise.

What do we give up for him?

If you combine his 2007/2008 seasons (167 games), you get .270/36/110. Can't really take too much from this year as he's been injured. Not sure about his glove. But in the games I've seen, he's crazy athletic and has pretty good range.

Alot depends on the health of CQ. If he's out for the year, KW has to make a move for a corner OF. Ankiel, Huff, and Dunn come to mind.

Hmmm...Kyle McCulloch?

Only if he'll agree to get back on the mound so that Coop can fix him.

And Brian. At least as a starter.

Maybe Josh Fields?

What is his arbitration/free agency status?

He is a free agent at the end of this season. His current salary is $2.825 million, so it's plausible the Cardinals could offer him arbitration.

LMAO. Done!

If we can't count on CQ and still contending I can see Kenny pulling that sort of move.

# 1 year/$2.825M (2009)

* re-signed by St. Louis 2/12/09 (avoided arbitration, $3.3M-$2.35M)

Fine by me.

If that is the case, I wouldn't offer much for him without a contract extention being agreed to.

Honestly the more I think about it the more I like it.

Questions I would ask are:

Where does he play?

Who does he replace?

What kind of a fit is he with the Sox?

How much does he cost?

How much will he cost in return?

Why?

He is a good story as far as his hitting is concerned, but I wonder why Rosenthal is evening mentioning Rick Ankiel?

Do the Cards need a medicore thirdbaseman?
