July 13, 200916 yr Halladay to Start All-Star Game for AL Posted: Jul 12, 2009 9:16PM By Ed Price (RSS feed) ST. LOUIS -- The pitcher most in the news over the past week will start for the American League in Tuesday's All-Star Game. A major league source confirmed to FanHouse that Roy Halladay will get the nod for the AL. The selection is to be made public Monday by manager Joe Maddon. Halladay has been the subject of speculation since Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi revealed earlier this month he would listen to offers for his ace, who is 10-3 with a 2.85 ERA. One executive from another AL team said Sunday he doesn't expect Halladay to be traded because of what the Blue Jays seek in return. According to the executive, once an interested team tells Toronto that any prospect is "off-limits," that effectively ends the discussion. That matches what a source told FanHouse last week, that "it's almost got to be like a [Erik] Bedard deal [or] Dan Haren." Well deserved, although I am disappointed...
July 13, 200916 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 03:38 AM) It could be his last AL start. J.P. Ricciardi is either going to have to slightly lower his prospect demands or at least give teams a 48-72 hour window to negotiate a contract extension (something that's been reported he's unwilling to do), otherwise I don't see anything happening. As disgustingly good as Halladay is, I don't think you can just gut your farm for 1 year and two months of him.
July 13, 200916 yr This is great news. When they speculated that Wakefield would be the starter, I was so angry that I didn't even make a post about it because I would've went on a tirade. That guy doesn't even deserve to be in the game, let alone the starter.

When they speculated that Wakefield would be the starter, I was so angry that I didn't even make a post about it because I would've went on a tirade. That guy doesn't even deserve to be in the game, let alone the starter. Couldn't agree more. It looks like Maddon just did a favor to a mediocre veteran pitcher. Another thing with Wakefield is, can anybody catch him? Probably not a good idea to put in a knuckleballer when the catchers on the roster have probably never caught one.

That guy doesn't even deserve to be in the game, let alone the starter. I'm in 100% agreement. It's only because he's on the Red Sox...
July 15, 200916 yr QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 03:27 AM) Well deserved, although I am disappointed... How did their days off line up with the ASG?
July 15, 200916 yr Author QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) How did their days off line up with the ASG? I can't say for Halladay, but Greinke would have started Monday if there had been a Royals game, so he had plenty of rest...
