You don't understand. Ozzie isn't keeping him down in the lineup because he's a rookie and he wants to protect him. He's keeping him down in the lineup because he's a rookie and Ozzie is an old-school motherf***er.

And that "old-school motherf***er" actually knows how to handle and develop young players. Unlike Soxtalk posters.

BECAUSE HE HAS MORE POWER THAN ANYONE IN OUR LINEUP!

Not this season. Dye is out-slugging him, yet Dye is hitting 3rd. Explain that one.

Ya, I'm done trying argue with you. You clearly know more about making a lineup than anyone in the universe. Why don't we just bat Thome lead-off then? He has a .400 OBP!!!!!!!!!!1one

This back and forth exchange is providing plenty of laughs. Thanks.

By laughs i meant head shakes.

No, I defer to people who actually know what they're doing, like Ozzie.

I'd be good with it, but honestly, Ramirez is doing fine there, so I don't care much either way right now.

Your 2 hole hitter is usually your best handler of the bat. Best contact ratio, best ability to hit to all fields

Because your 3 hole hitter is usually your best hitter.

Your Cleanup guy is your best power guy.

Oh sorry, I didn't know you worked for the f***ing organization. Get it through your f***ing skull. He's not protecting Beckham from anything.

Please tell me I'm not the retarded one.

Seriously considering DeWayne Wise a leadoff hitter insinuates that Ozzie doesn't have a great idea of what he is doing.

No, that doesn't make any sense at all.

That sounds about right.

Guys, this argument is silly.

Thome hits 4th to break up what would otherwise be a procession of power hitting right handers. Secondly, the guy is a run producer for 15 years. You're not going to bat him second all the sudden because his OBP is .400.

It is important for your leadoff hitter to get on base. We all know that. It is important for your second hitter to move that runner along, whether that be with the bunt, hitting the ball to the right side, whatever. It is also important that he be a good fastball hitter, because, presumably the middle order hitters are your run producers and so your table setters are going to see strikes, which most pitchers happen to throw most commonly with their fastballs.

It's not rocket science, certainly not in our dugout anyways. So don't try and turn it into that.

You've been playing too much fantasy sports and too many video games.

His track record as a manager disagrees with that. So does his development of Garland, Jenks, Danks, Floyd, and now Beckham. Say what you want about his lineups (and I'll often agree with you), but Ozzie knows how to develop young players.

That's EXACTLY what I've been arguing this entire time.

Who has more bat control than anyone on our roster? Beckham.

Who has been our best, most well-rounded hitter? Dye.

Who has the most power on our team? Thome.

1st of all, don't talk to me like I'm a f***ing moron. I don't give a s*** about fantasy sports or MLB video games.

2nd, developing pitches and hitters is WAY different.

I'll give you the fact that he is good with players. That may help the development of young kids.

But he didn't want Beckham even here. He pencils him into the lineup every day out of sheer necessity. I don't see how that is showing great developmental skills.

How can I have an intelligent conversation with some who is not intelligent in regards to the topic at hand? "Explain that one."

Ozzie said that because he wanted the guys in the clubhouse to not worry about looking over their shoulder everyday, and so that they wouldn't have to worry about the manager undercutting them. Its to keep the clubhouse in tact, nothing else.

Yeah, because he has more 2B and his slugging percentage is higher, he's clearly our best power hitter. The fact that he's been a clean-up hitter his entire career means nothing.

Keeping Beckham at the bottom of the order and taking pressure off of him (when he must be here out of sheer necessity) is part of that development process. Beckham's only 22. How many 22-year-olds are in the bigs? How many of them hit at the top of the lineup?

He did?

Doesn't that sort of contradict all the stuff he said to guys like Fields and Anderson then? He threatened those two all the time...

After they failed repeatedly and questioned Ozzie about it... That would be a little different.
