Catcher does not have to be an offensive position. Hell we had Mark Johnson catching a large amount of our games the past couple seasons. If Olivo can even put up .250 10HR numbers that would be good enough for me. I don't know how much to credit Olivo for the Sox improvement in game calling but the pitching numbers this season speak for themselves. He really seems to get the best out of our pitchers in alot of tight situations.

 

Example: Today's game he had a meeting with Gordon and later Marte in the 9th. Basically I think he told Gordon not to let Delgado beat us. We ended up sorta pitching around him and then we get the game-winning GIDP.

either a starter or some relief pitching would be excellent... although the mets said they were done, but someone they have with post season experience is Mike stanton... might they part with stanton if the price is right?

i would prob go with the "d" on the cat provided that we have the lineup that can spot for his lack of hitting. however if you don't, you will see a glaring need for that as the season would wear down.

 

getting a good cat who can call a good game, keep the opposing team running game down, if worth more to me than anything.

I'm thinking NO WAY we make Marte a closer...I love him as the nasty lefty that can take us to the closer, whoever that may be...and he can close when necessary, but not reguarly. If we get Gordon to stay next year, with Gordon, Porzio/Wunsch(one of them), and a righted Koch...I love our bullpen.,..we just need that long reliever...cause i'm about tired of Glover...

Long reliever you mean, right LDF? I still like Wright in that role for now...I wouldnt lose any love over not having Glover out there.

we can't go into a playoff series with one closer and an iffy one at that. the series has teams that hits, you need a couple of them.

I like the idea of using Gordon and Marte interchangeably. For example, use Marte to get through the 8th inning that has acouple of LH hitters due up, and Gordon to save it in the 9th... or vice versa, depending on who is due up for the other team.

I posted this point yesterday.... Most of Marte's BS were coming in to a 7th or 8th inning situation with runner's on base already. He gives up one hit and it's blown save. koch starts the 9th himself and gives up 2 walks and 2b before he gets his blown save. Look beyond the stats.

the point of a closer is someone come in, regardless of the situation and closes out the game. we really don't have that person, well maybe gordon, but beside him no one.

Nobody in the league not named Smoltz or Gagne is that closer, but Marte is the best we have without a doubt.

You are right, LDF. Gordon has done that a few times this year. But that's about it from our bullpen in that situation.

Only 4 LDF....less than the other guys...if he gets righted...our Pen is good, with the exception of GLover. We would then have 3 guys that could close. Marte does struggle with runners on, but he did well in that position tonight.

Thats exactly what I was thinking....Munoz pitched a TON last year, and the guy is a small guy, that has to take a toll on him. We need to look at the Pen, and see who is expendable right now...I still think Wright could do the job that Glover is assigned right now, and Wunsch can take Sanders role if he is ready.

T.Yofu (L 7-6) 5.1 8 5 5 1 3 1 He didnt do too well, and seeing as he is in AA, at his age....I'm not sure if he'll ever get a shot up here. Ginter is probably next in line.
