Sox Complete Everett Trade with Rangers

By Mark J. Jacobsen

(SN Report #579) - On Thursday, the Texas rangers selected their three players out of a pool of eight to complete the trade made on July 1, when the White Sox added outfielder Carl Everett.

Anthony Webster, Frankie Francisco and Josh Rupe will all be booking flights to their new teams, as they were the unfortunate casualties of the White Sox pennant race.

Webster, 20, was the crown jewel of this trade for Texas. The centerfielder was rated number three in the White Sox system before the start of the year. In 94 games with Kannapolis, Webster was hitting .289 with two home runs, 33 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.

Accompanying Webster will be fellow Intimidator Josh Rupe, who was 5-5 with a 3.02 ERA and six saves in 26 games for Class A Kannapolis. Rupe racked up 69 strikeouts in 65 2/3 innings.

The Final piece of this trade was Class A Winston-Salem pitcher Frankie Francisco. Francisco, who was acquired for Bobby Howry in last year’s trade with Boston, was putting together his most productive season yet, going 7-3 with a 3.56 ERA.

Jason/Mark:  If we ranked our prospects yesterday, where would Webster have been?  Borchard was ahead of him, but certainly not any more.

I can give ya a little peak at where we had those three on the list we made about 4 days ago (Were currently working on writeups and now have to add 3 new players to the list).

Webster was 9th

Josh Rupe was 14th

Frank Francisco was 31st

Frankie Francisco was rated to have the best fastball in this organization.

So yeah...he must suck.

I still don't understand how John Hart convinced the Sox to throw all these blue chip prospects into a pool for selection. I mean, this is still Carl Everett we're talking about. We get Carl Everett for three months. We're not talking Pujols or Helton or Hank Blalock. We are talking Carl Everett. I'm quite sure that they originally asked for Cotts, Honel, and Reed to be put into that pool. Nooooooooo, we said, much too smart for that ploy. But since you can't have those three, we'll include the best of the rest.

Jim I'm not quite sure where you stand on the Everett trade. Would you mind clarifying for us please?

A fine award he shares with Lorenzo Barcelo... What's he doing now? Driving a dump truck?

Prospects are prospects. Who cares? We got 2 talented veterans for nearly squat with no take on payroll (to add more vets). Sounds good to me.

:fyou mm23,

lorenzo was a great talent, it was too bad that his strength was not enuf for his body. that guy could throw.

what ever happen to him and his not making the majors is b/c of injury.

go back to wsi where you belong. you piece of s***.

Bla bla bla... Win while the pickin's good boys.  Webster, Rupe, and Rodriguez will be replaced.  Thus is the circle of life.

To clarify......... I don't think that adding Everett was a good move, even if it were for a bag of balls, a case of Old Style and a pack of Vienna Beef hot dogs.

Man, I cannot disagree with you more Rex. You are much to hard on Everett, and don't go saying his career is 2 monster seasons, he has contributed already for us, some big RBIs. I know we gave up young talent, but you really have a grudge vs Everett.

I know the kids we gave up are not the reason you hate the trade, but I guess we will have to wait and see if Everett helps us win. So far I would say he has.

I see your point MSF but in saying it your saying that ARow wouldn't have driven in those runs and I don't think you can honestly say that.

Anyhow as I've said before, if Carl can help carry us thru that August schedule then it was a worthwhile trade. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

MSF, i just don't think that Everett was a necessary piece to the puzzle. Yes, he has contributed, but who is to say that someone else would not have?

I may be wrong and if I am then great, that means the Sox are winning and he is contributing. I just think that Alomar was the only necessary move and that the Sox would have won without him. We'll never really know, but you gotta give me some credit for sticking to my guns on this one. I have had the same stance since the night of the trade and will keep it until I have to admit I was wrong, which, when the time is right, I will if necessary.

And at least give me a little credit for the bag of balls, case of old style and vienna beef hot dogs line. That was pretty creative, don't ya think? LOL

in discussing this with 2 of the people who in my opinion i respect a lot when it comes to prospects, i feel as i am in dangerous grounds.

but still my opinion is with rex on this. the everett trade imo was really one that was not necessary. and like him until i see his contribuation out weigh the lose of the prospect. so what will be the tell tale sign, i don't know but i will say it so, at for me. maybe an obvious major contribuation(offense).

btw rex i like the old style bit. i laugh so hard on that one point.
