September 7, 200916 yr Any prep football fans in here? What are Brother Rice's chances vs. St. Rita next Friday. Not sure where the game is played. I love Brother Rice football.
September 7, 200916 yr Join the club. Did you watch them play last year? Their freshman (now sophomore) running back is a flat out stud. He looks like Reggie Bush out there.
September 9, 200916 yr I cover some prep football for extra cash up in Lake County. Not fond of private catholic schools.
September 9, 200916 yr I broadcast high school football in my hometown. We are currently 8th in the state of Indiana.
September 9, 200916 yr Brother Rice didn't do so hot against Morgan Park in week 1, so I really can't see them hanging with St. Rita. I went to Mount Carmel, so I've been following them. I expect a good showing on Friday against Fenwick at Toyota Park. They were ahead 37-0 before the half against Lake Forest Academy, but their 2nd and 3rd teams made it a game as it ended 46-30. Apparently there isn't much depth at MC this year.
September 9, 200916 yr QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) I live in Texas /thread Only two things in Texas....
September 9, 200916 yr My high school Orlando Dr. Phillips is ranked #3 in 6A which is the largest classification in Florida. I think thats pretty cool.
September 11, 200916 yr USA Today ranks Maine South #16 and Mount Carmel #24 in their Super 25 rankings. Pretty cool to have two nationally ranked teams in Illinois.
September 16, 200916 yr Both Maine South (#14) and Mount Carmel (#21) moved up in the USA Today national rankings this week.
September 17, 200916 yr Undefeated and the #8 team in the state of Indiana, Michigan City is expecting something close to 10,000 people this year for homecoming.
September 17, 200916 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) Undefeated and the #8 team in the state of Indiana, Michigan City is expecting something close to 10,000 people this year for homecoming. This week's going to be a really tough game. Merriville isn't a bad team. I saw their only loss is to Warren Central, and they're an Indianapolis 5A school that's pretty good AND they beat Ben Davis, who's almost always good.
September 17, 200916 yr QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) This week's going to be a really tough game. Merriville isn't a bad team. MVille leads the DAC in points scored and points allowed. The interesting thing is that we have been shutting offenses DOWN. Our D has been awesome, plus our top RB has put up 460ish yards the last two weeks, and MVille can't stop the run. I'll be honest, I haven't seen excitement like this here since the 90's when we had Mr Basketball on our team.
September 17, 200916 yr IIRC just from watching the scrimmage it comes down to line play. I don't know, of course without being there, if MVille has any size up front. I remember MC is pretty quick in pursuit, you could tell that, but if the D runs into size, they're going to wear down in a game.

The amazing thing is that they have been the team wearing the opposition down. The last three weeks they have owned the 4th quarter. The last two weeks the RB has gone over 100 yards+ both times.
September 17, 200916 yr Yea, there's some pretty good high school football teams in Texas. Dare I say that a lot of "state ranked" teams in other states would be lucky to finish .500 here. That's just a guess, though.

Its like difference between the basketball teams going the other way.
September 17, 200916 yr My favorite fall site is a convoy of six or seven school buses with players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members, spirit squad, pom pom squad, drill team, fans, equipment trucks, a few dozen fans in cars, trucks etc, police escort front and back, sirens wailing and lights blazing, to escort one team a few miles down the road to an away game. That's taking a high school sport seriously.
September 18, 200916 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) No joke. Its like difference between the basketball teams going the other way. After having experienced both, yes. I would agree. There are a couple of pretty good schools in the metroplex for basketball - but I would think the top 10 in Indiana 4A would handle them most of the time. The football teams here would absolutely destroy those teams up there, though - it's not even close.
