Minneapolis/St. Paul

So going to Minny with my family from May 10-14 and am looking for what to do there besides the two Sox games. Obviously got Mall of America, but what else? I know there's lots, but what's the best?

Thanks!

Fishing. ;D

Funny you mention this. Me and people from another forum are scheduling a get-together at Target Field in the July series.

Who does your family consist of?

If you want a fun bar, the Local is a must.

Mom and dad. Only child w/ parents who are non-drinkers, so that probably would be out haha. Thanks for the suggestion though.

If it's your parents, find out what plays are going on in the theater district. Art museums are also a plus.

Maybe a tea room or fancy coffee/lunch place...

The aquarium at MoA was pretty cool. That's all we did up there, and went to an Irish Pub / restaurant.

What is the aquarium? Or rather, what is so exciting about it?

-Minnehaha Falls is fun for a nice walk or hike

-The Old Spaghetti Factory is always a favorite restaurant (right next to the Dome).

-There is also the Waterpark of America which is huge (not affiliated with MOA I think)

-Indoor ice skating at "The Depot"

-The Village Wok in Minneapolis is one of my favorites for lunch.

-30 min outside the cities is Stillwater. They have boat cruises, there's a cave tour, a nice italian place called "Luna Rossa"

-The premiere steakhouse in the cities is Manny's.

-I hear the Midtown Global Market is cool for different ethnic restaurants and markets.

-If you're looking for something simple and free, you can watch them change the water levels at the barge on the hudson river, some might think that's dull, but its actually pretty interesting (if you park by the old spagetti factory its within walking distance).

-You can walk past all the really old huge victorian homes. If you actually want to do this and want to know where, PM me and I'll ask my wife where it was).

-Go see comedy sportz in Uptown (personally I hated comedy sportz, but a lot of people love them).

-Or just simply walk through Minneapolis. Its super clean and safe in the downtown area at all times of day.

If you're looking for different types of ideas let me know, I may have more for ya.

Its huge, and you can walk through a tunnel in the middle of it. Last time I was there, you could pet the sharks and sting rays for free in a small tank. I don't know if they always do that though.

Yeah, Uptown is the sort of "hip" district, with fun shops, restaurants and bars. There are good restaurants downtown, like Eight Street Grill (Eighth and Marquette) and the NewsRoom (10th and Nicollet). The Walker (an Art Museum, and it's a gigantic silver box near Loring Park, you can't miss it) is also pretty neat.

Meet this guy..

I think I may be making a trip up there for the July series with my one twin fan friend.

Well, for anyone who is going in the future, The Local is where the players meander into after the games. In the first road series of 05', my friends and I had a beer with AJ (who got carded), Joe Crede and Aaron Rowand. Then unfortunately, my stupid friends insisted we hit the strip club, only to read in the paper the following Monday morning that the Hawkeroo and Kenny has stumbled in there at some point later in the evening as well.

Is that a bar? Or are people under 21 allowed in to?

Cool. Thanks for the suggestions. If I got any questions, I PM ya.

The Wok is definitely my favorite place to go in the cities for chinese food. Most of my knowledge of places to go are around the U of M campus, but if you're looking for places to go, it wouldn't be a bad place to visit. Stub & Herb's is a great place on Washington & Oak for good beer and good food, but I guess you don't drink, which kills that idea. There's a dueling piano bar downtown that's a lot of fun from what I've been told, but also probably wouldn't interest you. Either way, you definitely need to go to Dinkytown and walk around a little. It's the college part of the city, but there are a bunch of cool stores and it's a good place to wander around (and there are plenty of bars :P).

As for things not related to alcohol, Lake Calhoun is a great place to go for a walk and has some beautiful houses to look at (this might have been what Markbillards was talking about with the Victorian homes). I'd also really suggest checking out a St. Paul Saints game, as they are incredibly fun for all ages. I worked there in promotions last year and the type of things that go on at games are great, especially on days with good themes. They're owned in part by Bill Murray, which really explains some of the absurd and hilarious things we did/they do there. I know you're already going for baseball games, but at Saints games, the game is really secondary to all the other things that are going on.

It's a bar. But you may be able to eat dinner there at some point...

As I said though, AJ got carded walking in...
