Wild Card Watch

Featured Replies

I figure at this point, watching what the Twins are doing as well as watching the wild card is appropriate.

Tampa Bay 83-53

Chicago White Sox 77-60 (6.5 games back)

Boston Red Sox 76-61 (7 games back)

Toronto Blue Jays 71-66 (12.5 games back)

at this moment the Red Sox are winning 6-2 over the Rays in Boston.

Good idea. It's almost sad thinking we might have a better chance at the Wild Card.

Tampa Bay has the following schedule:

3 @ Boston

3 vs New York

3 vs Los Angeles

4 @ New York

3 vs Seattle

3 vs Baltimore

4 @ Kansas City

The last 10 games shouldn't be too hard for them but the first 13 could give them some difficulties.

I posted this the other day in the Catch-All thread. I really think we may be looking at a possible WC birth if the Yanks can beat the snot out of the Rays in their two remaining series'.

Definitely something to keep an eye on but 6 games is an awful lot to make up with 25 remaining and no head to heads left.

I don't even think it's definitely. Tampa would pretty much have to go San Diego on us the next two weeks for us to have a shot. But hey.. I will literally keep "an eye" out, as in one.

I don't know what you're talking about. They play Boston two more times, then New York 7 times, and a dangerous Toronto team in there as well. Anaheim as well. It's possible we could be closer to the WC than the Twins by the time Minnesota comes to town next week.

Not sure what you guys are smoking.

Wildcard watch, Tampa vs Boston 6:10 PM CST

Tampa Bay: Price (16-6, 2.92 ERA)

Boston: Matsuzaka (9-4, 4.29 ERA)

current standings

Tampa Bay 83-54

Chicago White Sox 77-60 (6 games back)

Boston Red Sox 77-61 (6.5 games back)

Toronto Blue Jays 71-66 (12 games back)

Tampa Bay now 11-6 against the Red Sox. They are also pretty good against the Angels. The only team besides the Yankees (who they also have a winning record against at 6-5) that will give them fits will be the Blue Jays (8-7) though they give the Yankees even more fits and play New York 3 more times in late September. Oddly enough a dark horse team I would watch out for is Kansas City oddly enough (2-2 against them) and I believe Greinke is scheduled to pitch in a series against them late. Is it impossible? Of course not. Does it make me wanna pay attention to that instead of a team who is 4.5 games ahead of us? Not a chance. It is not leaving the AL East, and I'll gladly eat crow if Tampa decides to pull a San Diego during the final two weeks.
