MLB '11 The Show

Not sure where the thread I previously made for this went, but it's not on the 3 pages in SLAM, and I can't find an archive of it. Anyway.....

Rumor has it the demo will be released this week. I can't remember if they update the store on Tuesdays or Thursdays, but either way, I'm pumped.

Thursdays.

I also, am pumped.

I'll be all over that demo to see if the new controls are worth paying for the upgrade.

I really can't wait for this to come out.

This is probably an absurdly dumb question. But I don't know since I took like a 5 year hiatus on playing video games until this fall. But is The Show the best baseball game out there? Isn't there a 2k11 as well?

I haven't played 2K, but I'm under the impression that it's rather lousy and The Show is substantially the far superior game, year in and year out.

No, it's Tuesdays now. The demo comes out tomorrow.

I'm betting it's gonna be Twins vs. Yankees or Rangers vs. Giants for the teams you can play as in the demo.

It's not even close. The Show the last two years has been the best baseball game ever created.

It's like comparing Madden to Techmobowl. The Show is so vastly superior that if SCEA ever decided to port the game over to Xbox, 2K would just pull out of the baseball market all together.

I got The Show '10. I like it, but I just started playing it a few weeks ago to get the hang of it.

Here's where I need help.

I'm video game illiterate. The only other games I own for a console are Crash Team Racing and Super Monkey Ball 1/2, strictly for the purpose of drunken gambling with friends- and MVP 05. I've spent countless hours adjusting the rosters from year to year in MVP and I just don't have the patience to do that again as I just now want to start a season in The Show.

So is there any way of accounting for this past offseason's signings/trades for The Show '10, or do I have to wait until the new one is released? And if so, how do I go about doing this? Mind you I don't even know how to connect to go online with the PS3 yet at this point.

Connecting the ps3 online is very simple. If you have a wireless network, just follow the prompts in the Networks section. If you don't simply put the ethernet cord in the back of your PS3 and go to the Networks selection and select wired. (Something like this).

When you start up the show, there is a section where you can go to "Sports Connect Login" or whatever, and you can download the latest rosters from crazed fans with way too much time on their hands. When we signed Dunn, I literally went online that night and got a completely updated roster for the league. It's actually quite crazy.

You can see the date of the roster updates and ratings so you know you get a good one.

Looks like I need to get The Show when it comes out next month.

Looks like I need to get a PS3... I haven't had a gaming system since N64 but I've been itching for some virtual baseball gaming.

Demo will be coming today, and it will be 4 innings of Rangers and Giants.

I'll wait to trade in '10 until I get a few "games" of that in to see if I like the new hitting. I'll end up buying it, though, I just know it.

I've heard the hitting is real tough to get used to, but the pitching is far superior. I think the only one I will use of the new stick controls are the fielding ones.

Demo is out right now. Be warned: it's 3 GB. It will take a while to download.

Yep, I started mine 16 minutes ago and it's at 8%. Extrapolated out, it figures to be a 3 hr, 20 min download. :o

Yeah man my brother has a Game Cube that I used to play and I've played the Wii a few times but before I got the PS3 a few months ago I hadn't really played video games in 5 years. Glad to be back and astounded how awesome the graphics are.

Played two games of the demo.

I like the stick controls. Pitching is now a lot more realistic. 40% of my pitches were balls, that's usually what it is for most pitchers.

So they are equally good for different reasons?

(I think you could have made a better comparison...Tecmo Bowl/Tecmo Super Bowl was one of the best NES games of all time)

Yea, but the best NES game doesn't even compare to modern day games, but yeah, I understand a lot of people actually like Techmobowl, while no one like 2K baseball.

Anyway, I played the demo and I am not sure if I am a fan of the stick controls. I like it for pitching (although it's pretty damn hard when you play against a human), and fielding seems pretty good, but I am not really a fan of hitting. It's not the stick aspect of hitting, because I like that, but's its the whole "press X before the swing for regular swing, O for contact, and [] for power". I don't like how drastic it changes the contact circle to hit with. I'd rather there be no choice of power or contact, and the closer you get to barreling the ball up in the middle of your circle, and your timing on it, it should be a more solid hit.

s***, I still play Tecmo Super Bowl from time to time. Bo Jackson, Christian Okoye, and Thurman Thomas are monsters.
