I thought that he was tentative in the brief time he played in the outfield. Stopped short on some balls and didn't get good reads.

 

By the way, he is currently 7th in Fangraphs' WAR for hitters on the season.

I understand this but if anyone thinks Marlon Byrd is worth more wins than Konerko they are out of their mind. Alexei gets the boost from playing a damn good SS.

Just clone Alexei 7 times and put him in LF, RF, CF, 3B, SS, 2B, C.

My bad. Still think Konerko is an above average 1B while Byrd is a pretty average CF. I could be wrong though.

You're not wrong. But WAR is based on positional adjustments. As in how PK ranks against other 1B. 1B is the deepest position in the game. So his WAR won't be as good as an elite or good SS or CF. Two positions that are much more scarce.

Well it's not only how Konerko compares to other 1B in the majors, but also 1B outside of the majors. 1B is the easiest position to find a replacement for, so to be a better than replacement level player, you have to be a pretty good hitter...Paul Konerko is a good to great hitter, so he's generally about a 2-4 WAR 1B, depending on if we are getting GOOD PAULIE or BAD PAULIE.

 

I only capitalized them because every other Chicago franchise uses those as well, so it only makes sense to use it with the White Sox too. They've had 2 players for over a decade now that have typified that pretty well.
