Interesting.

After a failed career as an outfielder, Leyson Septimo has been converted to a reliever, a role that allows him to make the most of his stellar arm. Septimo's ability to hit the upper-90s consistently with his fastball makes him one of the most exciting left-handed prospects in the organization.

The Chicago White Sox have claimed left-handed pitcher Leyson Septimo off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks and optioned him to Class AA Birmingham.

Septimo, 25, was 2-1 with a 6.37 ERA (21 ER/29.2 IP) and 22 strikeouts in 21 relief appearances with Class AA Mobile in 2011. He also limited opponents to a .202 (20-99) average, including a .186 (13-70) mark by righties.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder went 6-8 with a 5.79 ERA (111 ER/172.2 IP), 14 saves and 192 strikeouts in 135 relief appearances over four minor-league seasons in the Diamondbacks farm system (2008-11).

Septimo, who was originally signed as a free agent on February 19, 2003, was selected to participate in the 2009 All-Star Futures Game and named to the 2010 midseason Southern League All-Star Team.

The White Sox 40-man roster is now at 37.

Hmmm. A .202 BAA, but a 6.37 ERA. 25 BBs in 29.2 IP. I think I know what needs to be fixed with him. Control, control, control. You have to like the 192 Ks in 135 IPs though.

KW operating in stealth mode once again...J/k, but hopefully a mechanic tweak can get him some control.

Coop'll fix 'em.

Why not take a flyer Sox have plenty of room on the 40 man, I wonder If Poseda could be next?

At least he has a really cool name. Sounds like a former Roman emperor.

Why not?

Give Cooper and our AA coaching staff a shot at him? They have usually produced good results, when they've had some actual talent to work with, like in 2009.

With Santos Rodriguez and this dude, hopefully one of them can break through. Heck, maybe they should just bring him to Chicago and have him observe Buehrle, Danks, Thornton and Sale for a couple of weeks, sort of an "internship," so to speak.

Funny thing is, Septimo was already in Birmingham. He was on Arizona's AA team, who are currently in town to play the Barons. I think the White Sox traded Gaby Hernandez to Arizona as some sort of indirect compensation. He was assigned to their AAA team.

Who is this 7th guy?

Limits batters to a low BA. Well, I would think they probaby are afraid to dig in at the plate for fear his wild p[itches will taken their head off. But, in all seriousness maybe something positive will happen in his career and he will be of help to the Sox

Seems he'll have to learn controI'm guessing since there is no mention of secondary pitches that he perfect some secondary stuff too.

Check out his assist as a rightfielder

Dude is listed as 6'0 tall and 150 lbs, that is like Chris Sale skinny.

But a lefty who can hit upper 90s, has control issues with over 1 BB/IP, Aaron Poreda anyone?

Sounds like some vintage Pedro size.

He's listed as 195.

I really look foward to hearing what you think about him. I assume he is out of options, so the Sox have to figure out how to fix him by next April.
