September 12, 201114 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) MDGonzales Mark Gonzales Quentin activated but not in Sox's lineup He may not be ready yet, but we need to play him a lot these last two weeks and hope he leaves a good impression with potential offseason suitors.

The book is out on CQ. Nothing that happens from here on out will change any perception of him. .800-.825-ish OPS, mediocre to bad defensively, and very much injury-prone. And about to get expensive very soon. Edited September 12, 201114 yr by Jordan4life
September 12, 201114 yr Good to have the CQ back. Hope he is with us next year. My book on him is an all out hustler 30 homers 100 RBI kind of guy and more than adequate in the OF.

My book on him is an all out hustler 30 homers 100 RBI kind of guy and more than adequate in the OF. I don't know about more than adequate. He definitely hustles out there, but often times it's because he got a bad read or stepped the wrong way. I like CQ, too. But I also see him getting to be quite expensive. Of course, I'd like to see Rios go away and have an OF of Viciedo, De Aza, and Quentin. However, since Rios is not going anywhere...

I supose there has been bigger surprises than a Sox trade of Rios being made.

He's been a 30 HR/100 RBI guy once and he's certainly not more than adequate in the OF.

He really was this year. The last 2 years he's had that foot thing and that really cut his range...but aside from the "Getting hurt while playing the OF" part, he's really been adequate, if not more than adequate. It's not an exaggeration to say that he has been the best defender at his position in our OF. He's been average to slightly above average at his position, while Rios and Pierre were disappointing and terrible, respectively.

He's been average to slightly above average at his position, while Rios and Pierre were disappointing and terrible, respectively. I'd have to see it again next year before I could come close to deeming him adequate. He wasn't that good in LF in '08. But nobody cared about his defense then because he was putting up MVP numbers. You'll get no argument from me that he's been our best defensive OF. That's more sad than anything.

That's probably true, but he does need to show that he's healthy at present.

He's not injury prone. All of the injuries are "freak" injuries. It's not like he keeps re-injuring the same thing. Remember when people actually used that line of reasoning to claim that Quentin and Peavy aren't injury prone?
