Reasons he might want to stay ...

• Love of Chicago. It is a helluva town with passion for baseball. Fla. Nobody cares.

• Chicago restaurants and things to do. Unless Ozzie truly loves boating Chicago is better.

• Great uniforms. Best in baseball.

 

Reasons he might want to leave. ...

• Dunn.

• Rios.

• AJ can't throw anybody out.

• No team speed.

• Bullpen always looks good on paper but just is average.

 

Add it all up and the team has .500 as it's high water mark. Chances of another s***ty season are pretty good; going to Florida gives him a fresh start. On paper our team is on the decline. Why should he want to be in charge as the ship continues to sink?

Your reasons on why he might want to stay have nothing to do with baseball, and maybe that was your point. The reasons he might want to leave? Well, I can agree on Dunn and Rios, but as we have discussed ad nausem, Ozzie could have delat with those guys by pointing to the bench and saying, "Keep that spot warm." The other three reasons...I don't know. I don't think AJ's inability to throw anybody out makes Ozzie want to not manage the team. The lack of team speed might frustrate him because he's all about Ozzie-ball. The bullpen has been pretty solid, so I don't see that as a valid reason.

 

You forgot one of the best reasons why Ozzie might want to go to Florida...a new ballpark.

Remember when that seemed like the scariest, worst outcome of all? But at a certain point the relationship between the two of them was SO acrimonious that not only was it not scary anymore but you kind of HOPED for it?

 

That's where I'm at with KW/Ozzie right now. I see no benefit in them staying together, for them, or us or the team.

 

Here's a thought: would you even WANT to come back to this team next year? It's the Ryne Sandberg dilemma: sure you didn't get the job but aren't you glad you didn't? Because the Cubs were absolutely f***ed on paper even before 2011 began so you're basically picking who gets to captain the Titanic.

 

And what's to inspire confidence in 2012? We are stuck with Dunn and Rios, period. Beckham is floundering. Who knows what we'll get from Peavy or who will even remain on the pitching staff.

 

If I were Ozzie, I'd go quietly, talk about how everybody needs a change of scenery, and say nothing but great things about the White Sox and the organization. Because you never know--a few years down the road, it's possible you could come back here (quit screaming everyone). Not like that hasn't happened before.

 

Where this all goes sideways is if KW pulls the trigger on Ozzie and it erupts into a back-and-forth media war as Ozzie slinks out of town and God knows what Oney will start tweeting when that happens.

 

But enough. I wouldn't mind seeing both of them gone. But this relationship is OVAH. You can't work in that kind of a situation, and it shows.

Near .800 OPS in a terrible hitter's park for lefties, combined with facing some ridiculous pitching in the NL East...not bad at all. He's likely only going to get better as well.
