Sox offer Buehrle arbitration

Featured Replies

Chicago White Sox

NEWS: The White Sox have offered salary arbitration to free agent pitcher Mark Buehrle, but the club has declined to offer arbitration to free agent outfielder Juan Pierre.

By offering arbitration to Buehrle, 32, the White Sox preserve the right to draft pick compensation should the left-hander sign with another club.

The White Sox remain free to negotiate with and sign any of their remaining free agents, regardless of whether arbitration was offered.

Sox made the right decisions regarding both of these moves. Pretty much no-brainers. I've been really burried at work so I haven't been too up to speed on the baseball off-season but I'm pretty stunned at how few signings there have been so far.

Pierre made $8.5M last year? Vizquel around $1.5M? Castro around $1.25M or so? I think we can sign Buerhle using that money. Hear me KW? Sign him!

No doubt about it. Just take the money Pierre (didn't get $8.5 from us), Omar and Castro made last year and voila.

Haha, that would be nice.

With the payroll cut though and moving Thornton, Quentin, Danks and Floyd we should have some room, and hopefully some young talent in return.

I thought I read somewhere the new CBA would end compensation for type B free agents. Did that not happen?

Next year.

Thanks, thought it was effective immediately.

And good for us.

Some things are, basically they did everything they could to not hurt teams and players.

The funniest way for this to end is for Buehrle to just accept arbitration

My source has been spot on so far, if Buehrle doesnt sign I would be shocked. The org values him above pretty much everyone in the rotation but Sale.

Great to hear, that doesn't surprise me very much. As long as somebody doesn't go super crazy for Mark (over $16 a year, for 5+ years) I think the Sox will make a very nice, fair, and respectful offer.

Signing Mark is a double win--gives the Sox a quality pitcher and with him off the market it drives up the trade value for Danks.
