He's been crazy good since his first start. Perhaps his dad can give some insight.

Doyle is probably done after 8 innings, 2 runs.

Since his first start:

51 IP, 37 hts, 14 er, 12 bb, 51 k

Castro got crushed tonight. Mitchell really could use a few multi-hit games in a row.

Sigh.

Our farm system doesn't provide solace on nights like this for the big league team.

Between Axelrod, Doyle and Hernandez, hopefully we'll get at least one competent back-end starter and another LH reliever so we can dump Thornton once and for all.

Still believe Hector Santiago should be starting in the minors instead of being parked (mostly unused now) in the bullpen...especially with the health concerns about Sale more prevalent.

Saladino and Mitchell have been "blah" to bad recently and Trayce Thompson can never seem to get his average out of the 220's/230's.

Not terribly concerned about Saladino. Walking a lot, not striking out a bunch, and it's his first season in AA. If he makes solid progress in the 2nd half of the season he'll be fine. Only 23.

He seems to be hitting better away from Birmingham as well. .830 OPS away and .627 at home. Leads the SL in walks, 5th in on-base.

Name to discuss: Jon Bachanov

Picked out of high school in the comp round in 2007 by LAA... didn't pitch in 2008, out with Tommy John... 2009 but up some absurd numbers in the AZL (47 K vs 4 BB in 28.2 IP), that's AFTER the surgery... scouting reports incidated he has a plus fastball from low to mid 90's post-surgery, a plus slider as well, and a change-up... but then in 2010 in A ball he fell apart, can't determine why, but he did spend time on the DL that year.

2011 he joined the Sox system, showed well in Rk and A-, now he's in W-S High A. Currently 23 years old, striking out about a guy an inning, AvgA is encouraging. Was in the bullpen, but is now starting. So far as a starter in 3 games: 14.1 IP, 11 H, 5 ER, 6 BB, 14 K.

He'll be an interesting guy to watch as a starter. This is a guy who had serious raw talent, so if his arm can hold up, he could be interesting.

He also now has 18 SB only 2 CS in 45 games, thats damn good baserunning for someone without elite speed. Sounds like a smart player who knows how to get the most of his tools. A grinder if you will.
