#Orioles have shown interest in Brett Myers, who plans to pitch as a starter in 2013. #Twins and #Royals among other AL teams involved.

it starts today? for some reason i thought it was tues or wednesday

I don't know if this necessarily relates to the Winter Meetings, but ARod is likely to miss part of 2013 with another surgery, according to Joel Sherman. I would think the Yankees may be looking at signing a fill-in guy (maybe Chavez?).

Yeah, this puts them on the market for a 3B/SS with Jeters issues as well. This could hurt the Sox.

I'll make one dumb prediction that won't come true...Sox will get RA DIckey.

Soto to re-sign with Rangers for $3MM.

$3 million for a catcher who hit .198 last year.

Napoli close to a deal with the Red Sox. Let's see what happens with Salty.

I wouldn't hate to have Salty, but that .288 OBP is gross.

.299 OBP and .480 SLG vs RHP, which is mostly what he'd see as Flowers backup. Not bad for a backup catcher, if he will in fact sign for a backup's salary.

I can't imagine the Sox being able to afford AJ with Napoli getting that kind of money at 31

Catchers are getting paid. I expect AJ to get a 1 or 2 year deal for around $10MM per now.

A Flowers/Salty combo wouldn't be terrible.

At a backup price, id be all over that

Napoli isn't going to catch much in Boston.

Except they're paying him to be a 1B. $13M per for a first baseman who sucks? Maybe someone will take Dunn now because teams this offseason are acting just stupid.

Dunn had a comeback year and put up an .800 OPS and gets $15 million a year. Napoli had a regression and put up an .812 OPS and gets $13 million a year. Seems to me Napoli is still the better deal.

Concerning @jonmorosi report that #Royals are interested in RHP Brett Myers…yes, am told at "kicking the tires" level. Made $11m in 2012.

Purely in terms of fit, Boston is emerging as a possible source of help for the White Sox.

The Red Sox are kicking the tire on free-agent starters but have interest in Gavin Floyd. They are looking to move Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who would be a good piece for the White Sox as a platoon partner for Tyler Flowers. The White Sox would save some money, which would help them fill their needs at third base. Eric Chavez is an interesting name on the free-agent market there. He could share the position with Brent Morel, who gets at least half a mulligan to prove that he can hit in the big leagues. Definitely something to watch.

Wow, I would hope that Floyd has more worth than a platoon catcher. I was hoping that if Floyd is dealt, it would be for a solid prospect who could possibly challenge in spring training for a job.

That all sounds so very depressing. Trading Floyd for a bad catcher who would play part time. Then using the money they save on Floyd to acquire a platoon player to pair with Morel. God, I hope this is a worst case scenario from a columnist whose rarely right

I don't think he does. As for Chavez/Morel, I mentioned this possibility before. I know KW almost got Chavez last year and Morel is supposedly healthy. I would think it is option C or D or lower, but there are worse alternatives.

Platoon at 3rd and C? No thanks. If the Sox trade Floyd to save money, the money needs to be spent on a full-time fix for 3B.

Platoons aren't necessarily a bad thing, especially at an offensively challenged postion overall ©, and another position where there isn't much available, and a good chunk of the league is looking to fill (3B).

Yeah, I have no problem with this, and in fact, I prefer this option in a year such as this. A great 3Bman for the future is going to be very spendy, and even a mediocre intermediary fill-in, such as Youkilis, is going to cost 8 digits both years and there's neither a guarantee he stays healthy nor that he produces. Just grab a small piece and run with it for the year.

To be honest, I'm okay with a Salty/Flowers platoon. But Morel and Chavez? I don't know. I'm not sure there's any hope for Morel.
