Carlos Beltran talk

Featured Replies

this was interesting from ESPN. I would be willing to guess that the total amount of the contract Beltran ACTUALLY gets is less than half of that $144 mil figure.

We applaud the Royals for hanging onto Carlos Beltran and trying to win this year when they had a chance. But there's as much a chance of George Brett playing for the Royals a year from now as there is of Beltran playing for them.

An official of one club who recently spoke with Beltran's agent, Scott Boras, says that Boras has set an asking price on Beltran of eight years, $15-18 million a year. Which would come to anywhere between $120 million and $144 million. No chance. Not in Kansas City. And probably nowhere. So the minute their season is over, the Royals will step up efforts to deal Beltran before his walk year.

"He's a really good player," says one scout. "But to me, he's not a 'name.' He's not a name you can attach to a city, like (Derek) Jeter with New York or A-Rod going into Texas. You put Carlos Beltran in a place like New York, he'd get swallowed up."

Wow, Scott Boras trying to get people to overpay for a player...

Someone will do it, probably NY Yankees as the heir apparent to Bernie.

Vladamir is gonna have trouble getting that kind of money, so I don't see it happening. My guess is that he ends up in Baltimore alongside Guerro. Just a hunch I have.

He might get Johnny Damon type money but that's it. Good luck Borassssss!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think market will be low again, big ass long contracts are history for fringe players like Beltran

Borass must still be pricing clients based on A-ROD prices. What a MOMO. Eventually he's going to lose credibility over all this. The NYY are not going to over pay for Beltran or any other player. Cashman has been pretty good at pricing NYY targets just above the best offer.

The Sag ratings have him ranked 9th.

Beltran 7.57RPG

Thomas 7.56RPG

Ordonez 7.55RPG

The Yanks will probably target him for RF & heir apparent for CF when Williams decides to stop playing.

I agree. I can't see Beltran getting that kind of contract in the current market.

Boras couldn't care less about his credibility. It's all about maxing out his dollars. Ask Bobby Hill how Boras's credibility has helped him. And the A-Rod texas thing has turned into a lose-lose deal. I know we won't deal with him because he's in a different financial universe, but it doesn't bother me a bit. You can win without his clients, or go broke with them.
