June 6, 201312 yr FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, June 6, 2013 WHITE SOX MAKE FOUR ROSTER MOVES CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s game vs. Oakland, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Jake Peavy on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 5) with a fracture of the left fourth anterior rib, optioned right-hander Brian Omogrosso to Class AAA Charlotte, recalled right-hander Deunte Heath from Charlotte and purchased the contract of right-hander Ramon Troncoso from Charlotte. Peavy, 32, is 6-4 with a 4.30 ERA (32 ER/67.0 IP) and 66 strikeouts in 11 starts with the White Sox this season. He left his last start on June 4 at Seattle after 2.1 IP due to the rib injury. Troncoso, 30, is 1-1 with a 2.19 ERA (6 ER/24.2 IP) and eight saves in 21 appearances with Charlotte this season. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder is tied for seventh in the International League in saves and has limited opponents to a .194 (18-93) average, including a .182 (10-55) mark against right-handers. Troncoso made 175 appearances (all in relief) over parts of four major-league seasons with Los Angeles-NL from 2008-11, going 8-8 with a 3.92 ERA (86 ER/197.1 IP) and six saves. His best season came in 2009 with the Dodgers when he went 5-4 with a 2.72 ERA (25 ER/82.2 IP) and six saves in 72 appearances. Heath, 27, is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA (4 ER/16.0 IP) in 10 outings with Charlotte this season and also has gone 0-0 with an 11.12 ERA (7 ER/5.2 IP) in four relief appearances over two stints with the White Sox. Omogrosso, 29, went 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA (8 ER/14.0 IP) in 11 relief appearances after being recalled from Charlotte on May 1. Omogrosso a victim of having pitched too much. He'll be back up eventually, but they wanted two fresh arms for today's game. Tough break for him. No surprises on the callups.
June 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) Omogrosso a victim of having pitched too much. He'll be back up eventually, but they wanted two fresh arms for today's game. Tough break for him. No surprises on the callups. More like the culprit of giving up too many bombs.
June 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) More like the culprit of giving up too many bombs. He'd still have been on the roster if the game had ended in 13 last night.
June 6, 201312 yr Author QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) He'd still have been on the roster if the game had ended in 13 last night. This. He'd been looking better, pitching well two outings in a row. He isn't anything special at this point, but he didn't deserve a demotion. Just a casualty to the dead bullpen. Savvy move. I wanted us to bring up Johnson for today, give him all the relief innings, and then send him back down tomorrow and bring Troncoso.

No reason Heath + Troncoso can't get shelled for 4 innings if it comes to that.
June 6, 201312 yr Omogrosso reminds me of Alex Burnett at this point, which is to say he has some velocity but he's not a special pitcher by any means.
June 6, 201312 yr Yeah Omogrosso is not very good, guys. There's worse out there, granted, but I will shed no tears for swapping him with Troncoso/Heath.
June 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) Yeah Omogrosso is not very good, guys. There's worse out there, granted, but I will shed no tears for swapping him with Troncoso/Heath. It isn't that Omo is very good, it is more that Tronscoso has been a horrible major leaguer for a lot of years now. If the pen hadn't have been destroyed the last few days, I would be upset he was here.
June 6, 201312 yr Are we supposed to think these moves are going to be the help we need to get over the top? Probabaly more about using too many pitchers yesterday then anything

June 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) That is all it is. No more, no less. Well that and Jake Peavy fracturing a rib...
June 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) It isn't that Omo is very good, it is more that Tronscoso has been a horrible major leaguer for a lot of years now. If the pen hadn't have been destroyed the last few days, I would be upset he was here. I'm not excited about Troncoso either, but he's been pitching well in AAA and really, at this point, there's no harm in trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Maybe he pitches well for a month and a half and the Sox can sell him off for a guy who can throw 96 in A ball.
June 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) He'd still have been on the roster if the game had ended in 13 last night. No doubt but I still think he pitches too carelessly for my taste.
June 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) Are we supposed to think these moves are going to be the help we need to get over the top? Probabaly more about using too many pitchers yesterday then anything I wouldn't sit around waiting for the help we need to get over the top. I am excited for draft tonight, Blackhawks Cup run, and we are 49 days until Bourbonnais. The Peavy news has put me in full selloff mode.
June 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 03:08 PM) Well that and Jake Peavy fracturing a rib... Obviously referring to Omogrosso.
