Gee. What a surprise. He's Bryan Bickell.

Maybe he'll show up in the playoffs.

Not exactly a stellar offseason for Bowman between the Bickell & Crawford deals.

At least some of us here were able to see through the shiny Stanley Cup aftermath and call them out as bad deals when they happened.

;)

Ugh. Replacement level players making $4 million per is not a good idea.

Especially when Andrew Ladd is making 400k more, and he's the guy that they turned away because he would be "too expensive."

The cap situations were much different in 2010.

The Crawford deal was more of a necessity while Bickell was a third (or fourth) line winger that got hot at the right time.

Give me one reason that this is true.

Give me one reason that this is true.

Because if you play with no goalie and 6 attackers, you'll never win.

I guess I just think it is harder to find a starting goalie than it is a third (or fourth) line winger. I do not think Crawford is worth his contract but I understand that signing more than I do Bickell.

With the talent in the system, Bickell was a shock to me.

A legit, oh my goodness we have a stud, starting goaltender is pretty hard to find. Crawford is not, and never has been, said guy.

Sadly, he's now paid like it.

The only goaltenders who will make more than Crawford (next season) are:

Pekka Rinne

Jonathan Quick

Roberto Luongo

Cam Ward

Ryan Miller

Kari Lehtonen

Tuuka Rask

Oh my, does Crawford belong nowhere near that list of talent.

Don't forget Henrik Lundqvist too. His new deal pays him $8.5 million per year.

*edit* his cap hit is $8.5 million per year, his actual salary next year is $11 million.

Cam Ward? Ouch.

Yeah. He's admittedly rather s***ty.

That Luongo contract still bites.

Not sure what you are trying to prove I never said he was anything more than a more important resource to the Blackhawks than Bickell is.

If I wanted to argue for his signing which, again, I am not, the question would not be who is making more the question is who was available this past off-season to replace him?

Agreed. I'm with you -- I didn't like either deal, but Crawford made slightly more sense.

Antti Raanta

Ray Emery

other replacement like goalies that don't cost $36 million over 6 years

Emery sure is inspiring confidence this year.

Tim Thomas (And that would be one less player you have to bring to the White House :D )

You can always depend on Luongo to help end a Hawks losing streak.

Speaking of goalies, Ben Scrivens with your standard 59 save shutout.

#Blackhawks had 6 OTL in January... 16 of the 30 NHL teams have 6 or fewer for the entire season.
