Mike Trout's Ridiculous Encore

"You always look at player comps in this business," Bane said. "None of our guys wanted to put down the comp that you'd expect in this case, because it's just too much pressure. We should have done it, though. We should have put down the comp that a lot of people have put down since then. You look at Trout, you see Mickey Mantle."

Mantle had BLAZING speed (before the catastrophic injuries) and 550 foot home run power...Trout rarely hits homers like that...and Mantle also had a gracefulness about his game whereas Trout's more just brute force and dynamic energy.

Would never put Trout out there as a comp.

Problem is...there really is no comp for guys like that. They're one in a hundred million.

Did you read the article?

I know Mantle was a switch hitter, but Trout has home to 1st times out of the RH box at 3.7-3.8, and he has the highest stolen base % success rate of anyone with enough attempts thus far...89.5% or something.

Dunno about pure power, but he's the closest thing to Mickey Mantle we've ever seen...since Mickey Mantle.

Hit tracker/ESPN has this thing called the "Golden Sledgehammer," which is the longest average distance of home runs for players with at least 13 homers (meaning guys who continually hit the ball a mile).

Mike Trout is 4th this year - 21 homers with an average of 415.6 feet. Last year he was 16th with an average distance of 409 feet. Mike Trout has ridiculous power too. I mean, look at where this ends up.

Oh, and if you don't think there's anything graceful about Trout's game, then I think you've probably been watching Mark Trumbo.

I really don't think Mickey Mantle is that ridiculous of a comparison.

Grumble, grumble.

Yes, every homer Mickey Mantle ever hit was 600 feet. He'd steal upwards of 200 bases if only that f***er God hadn't taken his legs. He'd hit 4 homers in a game after drinking all night. Mickey Mantle was a REAL MAN. This 22-year old putting up insane numbers is no real MAN like Mickey Mantle.

Honestly, your over the top love affair with Puig has made you lose all credibility in these kind of topics.

Trout is probably more Mays than Mantle. Or early 90s Barry Bonds.

There really isn't. So the only comp is guys with no other comps...like Mantle.

Baseball-Reference has his second and third comps as Frank Robinson and Mickey Mantle.
