April 14, 201412 yr http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20140414 Birmingham and Kanny both postponed, but Rienzo starting for Charlotte and Wendelken starting for WS. Hawkins 1-2 with a K. Wendelken looking good as a starter....
April 15, 201412 yr Wendelken with another solid outing -- 6 1/3 innings, four hits, one run, no walks, six Ks.
April 15, 201412 yr Hawkins went 2/4, RBI, K. Anderson went 0/4, 3 K Wendelken looking diggity-diggity-dope.
April 15, 201412 yr Rienzo blows. He really does. Purcey, 2 shutout innings, 2 hits, 2 bb. Enough with the walks. Keon Barnum--Kannapolis by June or sooner? Edited April 15, 201412 yr by flavum
April 15, 201412 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) Rienzo blows. He really does. Stick him in the pen with two pitches and he'll be fine.
April 15, 201412 yr QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 09:26 PM) Stick him in the pen with two pitches and he'll be fine. Well, that's a thought. I never want to see him start for the Sox again.
April 15, 201412 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 09:29 PM) Well, that's a thought. I never want to see him start for the Sox again. Pitchers that throw 95+ and strike out a batter an inning don't grow on trees. If he can focus on making one offspeed pitch good, he'll be serviceable for sure.
April 15, 201412 yr Purcey is pitching his 3rd inning. Two more walks...he's still on the mound. He doesn't throw enough strikes. Had some bad luck...double play ball hit the umpire that extended the inning.
April 15, 201412 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) Keon Barnum--Kannapolis by June or sooner? Tim Anderson has been worse. Still think he should of repeated Kanny.
April 15, 201412 yr QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 10:29 PM) Tim Anderson has been worse. Still think he should of repeated Kanny. I think you have it backwards - Barnum has been much worse than Anderson. I thought the W-S assignment for Barnum was a stretch, Anderson I was sort of on the fence but didn't think it was a big deal. Barnum's line so far: .103/.167/.103, 47.6% K/PA, 7.1% BB/PA in 42 PA. It's still very early, but if he's anywhere near this bad in May or June (depending on how bad for how long), he should go back down to Kanny IMO. But last year at Kanny he did eventually get better, continuously during his time. As long as he starts improving, keep him there. Anderson's line for comparison: .244/.255/.467, 40.4% K/PA, 0 BB in 27 PA. The lack of walks is a potential issue (though we're talking 0 vs 3 here), but he's doing much better than Barnum at this point at the plate. Defensively, Anderson seems to be all over the place good and bad, but that aspect won't really be different between A and A+ in any significant way. I don't see cause to talk about moving Anderson down at this point.
April 15, 201412 yr http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...t-on-rainy-day/ 4/14 recap posted. Not a lot to work with yesterday...
April 15, 201412 yr Another reason not to take Trea Turner...we already have our own version in Anderson.
April 15, 201412 yr 12 K's again from Dash hitters. Gotta be setting some kind of record - perhaps not the best environment for some of these key players to be surrounded by fellow whiff-machines, but what are you going to do? 9 walks from Charlotte pitchers doesn't bode well for MLB help this year either.
