October 15, 201411 yr Was there some underlying reason (aside from moving up a league) that his stolen base numbers dropped like they did? I like him a lot, and think that if his base stealing gets right, he could be a ton of fun to watch moving forward.
October 15, 201411 yr QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) He had a variety of injuries all through 2014 season. you are correct, I would like to add. he had 1 injury since early june, that never healed. He played thru it for the season. now that he is in school, the injury is healing. I believe he also played in the future games. well if I am wrong, someone will correct me. Hahn was saying that he liked what MJ did and how he played with the injury, even not going on the disable list when he had a chance too. Edited October 15, 201411 yr by LDF
October 15, 201411 yr Teams also often put more limits on guys running as they move up the minors if they've already got their technique down because they want them to work on other things.

I seem to recall reading at some point that they didn't have him run as much on purpose because of exactly that reason, and to try to prevent injury.
October 15, 201411 yr QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 02:23 PM) is there any chance of MJ making the team this yr. Absolutely. I think 2B will be a wide open competition between Sanchez, Semien, and Johnson. I think Semien makes the roster regardless and will be used as a super sub.
October 15, 201411 yr QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 02:23 PM) is there any chance of MJ making the team this yr. This year as in April 1st? Not much. Maybe 5%? This year as in, before Sept 30, absolutely. Barring a big fall in production this year, I'd put it at 90% he sees at least a Sept call up.

Barring a big fall in production this year, I'd put it at 90% he sees at least a Sept call up. I'd say there's a better chance than that. I really like what I saw from Sanchez, but I think the organization is much higher on Johnson. Perhaps as a way to limit service time, he stays down for a while, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Johnson makes it. I think the best man takes that job no matter what.

However, I think that if the White Sox had their ideal scenario, Micah Johnson would be their starting 2B to begin the season.

October 22, 201411 yr QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 10:44 AM) I understand your concern and kind of agree. I think the injury and error questions slow that train down, not to mention the roster spot crunch with the guys in front of him.
October 22, 201411 yr I'd be surprised if the Sox brought somebody in to take ABs from Semien. My guess is that both Sanchez and Semien are on the MLB roster to start the year, the question is just what roles they will play. It almost seems as if they prefer Sanchez, which is very surprising to me. Semien shouldn't be relegated to a platoon role at this stage in his career.
October 22, 201411 yr I don't think you trade Sanchez unless you get an offer you can't refuse. He is a guy that can have a ton of value to the Sox as, at the very minimum, a reserve infielder. I don't think you'd ever want him starting at SS or 3B full time, but I see no reason why he couldn't play those positions in a pinch or for a few games here or there. However, from watching him, it didn't seem like he has the straight line speed or agility to be a capable player in the outfield, though I could obviously be wrong on that. I got a different impression from Semien, who does seem like he should be capable both in the outfield and infield. I don't think Semien is going to be relegated to a platoon role at the MLB level. I think he will fit more in line with a super sub sort of role where he will play all over and get consistent playing time as opposed to essentially being a backup and starter solely against LHP. Also, while I will say that I don't hate the idea of Kelly Johnson on like a non-guaranteed contract, I think the Sox should be looking for a bit more contact off the bench. Johnson's career statline reads like Dayan Viciedo except somehow worse.
