Not a terribly fair comparison given their respective ages during their first 162 games.

Hey guys do you think this is a fair comparison considering Abreu is older and played in Cuba?

It feels like every time a Sox player who can hit a bit comes up, people try to compare him to Thomas. I remember Hawk said it about Carlos Lee and some morons on another site did it with Viciedo in 2010. You just can't. You can count the right-handed hitters in baseball history who are comparable to him on one hand. We will likely never see another hitter Sox as good as Thomas in our lifetimes.

 

I doubt Giants fans compare every young power-hitting outfielder to Mays or Bonds. It's silly.

Abreu's age 27 season: .317/.383/.581, 170 OPS+, 167 wRC+

 

That was Frank's worst wRC+ to that point, hilariously.
