Chris Sale at 1000 innings pitched

Featured Replies

Chris Sale reached the 1000 innings pitched mark yesterday. Baseball Reference uses a 1000 inning minimum to qualify for their "all time" leader boards.

Here are a his rankings in a few categories:

WHIP - 10th - 1.0615

All time leader - Addie Joss - .9678

K/9 - 3rd - 10.12

All time leader - Randy Johnson - 10.60

K/BB - 2nd - 4.724

All time leader - Tommy Bond - 5.036

ERA+ - 15th - 140

All time leader - Mariano Rivera - 205

Pretty impressive. Hopefully it continues for another couple thousand innings.

Very interesting stats, thanks for sharing!

I got a good chuckle last night when people in the game thread thought he was regressing. LOL.

This is his 7th year being a dominant pitcher and his 5th being a dominant starter. His consistency is unheralded, Kershaw aside

Sale is awesome and coming into his prime. Hopefully this is the year he put everything together...33 starts, 230+ innings, ERA under 2.80, Win A Cy.

Sale's 16 starts to the Cy:

7-8 vs Atl

7-18 at Sea

7-23 vs Det

7-28 at Cubs

8-3 at Det

8-9 at KC

8-14 at Mia

8-20 vs Oak

8-26 vs Sea

8-31 at Det

9-5 vs Det

9-11 vs KC

9-16 at KC

9-21 at Phi

9-26 vs TB

10-1 vs Min

Make all of your starts!

(of course this might change with rain, wildcard setup)

Pretty sure he'll start one of those games against the Angels 7/15-7/17. He doesn't need 10 days off, the ASG isn't that strenuous

Just a guess at this point. We'll see what they announce for a post break rotation.

I'm totally fine with this dude having the honor over Sale. Check out that comb and the 'stache!

It's not that helpful. Sale isn't going to take ten days off from the mound (for us). He'll pitch one of the first few games after the break.

Even if it isn't 100% correct, I appreciate the time he took to list all those dates out. He's a great member here.

Why not? I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they gave him a little extra time off. He's had a pretty heavy workload in the first half and he'll probably start the All Star game. He's gotten extended rest every year he's been a starter around the break. He was given 12 days between starts in 2012, 11 in 2013, 12 in 2014 and 8 in 2015. He didn't pitch in the 2015 game which probably accounts for the shorter rest.

Ten days off with just an inning or two in the All Star game? I doubt it.

Again, they've done it EVERY year he's been a starter.

I think you mean "unmatched," since whether or not his greatness/consistency is heralded doesn't jibe with "Kershaw aside."
