  1. I don't like Wright, never had. he played good his first year, when he was lights out in the playoffs, and has done nothing since. though, it wouldn't hurt to add, even at a minor league deal.
  2. I'm with you jason. I'm a fan of the Sox and I'll always support them no matter what. I'd love for them to win a world series, but I'm such a fan of the game as a whole that I can't get as serious and upset about it. don't get me wrong, if the Sox won the WS I'll probably break down in tears, but I like watching the Sox play because I like watching baseball. I guess that is why I don't get as pissed as all you other guys.
  3. I do agree that the Cubs are somewhat like the yankees, in that a lot of people like them, but even more hate them, and it all has to do with their park and fans. I don't think many fans hate the Sox. Actually, I think sox fans hate the Sox more than other fans of course the lack of hatred for us is based that nobody knows who the hell we are.
  4. you turned around what I said. what I said is that if Schueler had his way, kids with diapers would be on the field. meaning he always looks to the future and wants young guys on the field. he's never been a fan of getting vets and going for it all. Schueler always looked 5 years down the road. that is one way to look at why he would not like the way the team is going.
  5. that isn't a suprise quote. he said when he left, that is the reason he left. I think his whole beef has been with teh signing of such players like Clayton and Lofton. personally though, I can't side with Schueler. because if it was up to Schueler, he would sent ball players with diapers onto the field. he wants nothing to do with old guys unless it's a wore down catcher. good thing about Schueler is that he's capable of building an organization, bad thing is he has know idea how to take the next step.
  6. only if he plays good. I know I've been a big backer of getting an asian player, but it has to be the right one. a starting pitcher would be ideal.
  7. not gonna happen. Shinjo wants to start. then again, I don't think many teams will give him taht opportunity.
  8. perhaps we are talking about, if we are lucky, getting Moyer if Thomas goes or Colon if Thomas stays. of course I still don't believe Lee will be involved in any trade to a team like the Expos.
  9. that is it entirely though. cub fans don't hate sox fans, they just act like (in some cases are) idiots and f*** around with sox fans. what is worse is we get so f***ing upset over it (i'm including in this group). the reason Sox fans hate them is because of the s*** their fans do. the reason they do it is because of the way Sox fans act when they do it. plus, we have threads started like this and sox sites who focus all their damn attention on the cubs. of course this s*** is going to continue. who cares about them. they are another baseball team as far as I'm concerned and we have been the better team since forever. we should be arrogant when talking about the cubs like yankee fans are too every other teams fans. sure we aren't the best team in baseball, but we are the best baseball team in chicago. we know we are better, any baseball guy knows it, no need to argue it.
  10. sorry to say this, but the only reason it will suck is because us Sox fans make too much of a big damn deal about stuff like this. if we were to just ignore the cubs and go about our business, all this cubby crap wouldn't get underneath all of our skins.
  11. I don't think he's worth 7-8 either, atleast for 2003, but he isn't worth 3-4 mil. remember that he's won 35 games in two seasons, has held an ERA in 3.50s, has thrown over 400 innings, is a lefty, and is 23 years old. now include the fact that the Sox lowballed him last year, they should make up for that and give him something deserving. I would give him a 3 year deal worth 18 million, with a team option for a fourth at 10 mil. have him make 5 mil in 2003, 6 mil in 2004, 7 mil in 2005. I think that is reasonable. he's been in the league for three years and hasn't shown any signs of getting worse or getting figured out. his only problem is that he tends to wear down as the season goes and just isn't as productive as the start, but I think that is the case for most pitchers, at least young ones. OR, if the Sox want to go out and get a guy like Moyer or spend some cash. give him 2-3 mil in 2003, and then raise it significantly for 2004 and 2005, just so they can afford other players now. he has to be signed past 2004 though. reason is Ordonez is set for free agency following 2004. no way we can have both guys FAs in the same offseason. key, in my opinion, is to keep the number of FAs you have each year as low as possible. either way, they should lock him for 3-4 years soon. sign him, offer Thomas 5 mil a year, then go from there in regards to FAs and such. they should get someone, even a Traschel or Reynolds will do. we just need another arm so we can keep Biddle, Rauch, and Glover out of the rotation and in the pen. Garland and Wright will only get better, and Ritchie can only improve from last year.
  12. I just think guys have to be given a chance. Rowand didn't show any signs of being a 4th outfielder this year. he played on occasion and did the best he could. he started playing full time and improved. right now he is in a position where it is his job to lose. if he does poor in ST and struggles in the opening months, then I think you can start thinking of him as a 4th outfielder, because as some point out, he isn't the most talented guys in the world. But I think he's much better than you guys think and he could be a strong, fundamental player on this team. And the reason I'm so hooked up on fundamental is because I've watched this team the past few years and we have been one of the worse in baseball.
  13. okay, I don't get it. you guys don't think Rowand can be a center fielder on a championship team, but Valentin is? Rowand will never be a superstar, but he has good speed, good instincts, is a good defender, hard worker, and very fundamental. his arm is also strong. talent isn't always the thing in baseball. look at the angels. catcher all the way to short weren't talented players, they are just smart. look at the twins also, the team that beat our ass this year again. they don't SUPERSTARS. when are people going to learn that fundamentals and hard work are important. Rowand will never win a batting or homerun title, or a gold glove or be the leading base stealer, but he'll get the job done. throw him in the lineup at the 2-hole for an entire season and you'll see how valuable he can be.
  14. I don't think anyone should doubt Thomas' ability to come back. There isn't a doubt in my mind that Thomas will put up 110 RBI's next year with 30+ homers and a strong average. if that 10 mil a season could be spent on a pitcher, I would rather do that. it would be nice to see Thomas back. we all tend to forget he had surgery in 2001 and looked alot better over the last month and a half of the season. sign him for 5 mil a year, give Buehrle his 7-8 mil a season and go from there. those are two priorities that are/could hold the Sox up.
  15. his attitude is similar to Paul O'Neil. no excuses, always looking to improve.
  16. we don't mind the criticism, as long as its constructive and not done just to put someone or the site down. thanks though.
  17. thanks for the comment though roman. next time though, write him an e-mail so you can directly ask him. That is why his e-mail is there, so you can comment and critique him personally.
  18. he wasn't predicting the actual roster and the guys set numbers, he was just doing an evaluation of each player. I do understand what you mean however.
  19. the only problem with that is people would take it the wrong way. too many babies out there who would leave the board or something because of this. we are all sox fans talking, there should be no accepting or level of intelligent. it is a creative idea, but a problem that would be waiting to happen.
  20. you mean lefthanded hitter or pitcher? personally I would like both, but I can deal with the offense we have. if Thomas or Lee are gone, Liefer would be fine in my opinion. a lot of people doubt him, but he could put up some good power numbers. sure he won't drive in many, will have a low average, and will strikeout a lot, but do we really need that from a guy batting in the 6 hole? all we need a lefthander that is somewhat of a power threat on offense. that way Valentin could bat second with Jimenez first. now of course, if we find a way get a pitcher without trading Lee and get a left handed hitting CF, then I would consider moving Rowand to left and dump Liefer. the CF needs to be someone though. Juan Pierre would be a pretty weak move. we have two lefties in our lineup right now (unless Johnson starts next year) in Valentin and Jimenez. both are top of the lineup guys. plus, Pierre isn't that special. he was playing in Coors field for christ sake. I would rather have Rowand, a guy we know what we are gonna get than Pierre. I'm looking at getting Moyer also. I think he would be a perfect pickup. I wouldn't mind getting LIdle either, my only problem is we have Ritchie. he struggled this year, but he is still capable of throwing a 4.50 ERA with a 12-15 wins. if we get a guy like Moyer, then I could see us backing away from Lidle. THEN AGAIN, if we can get Lidle for Johnson and a Biddle or a Liefer or something, I would do it. what would you guys say about this. first we sign Moyer. now of course that is a little far fetched, but I'm gonna dream for now. then what about this trade. A's Get: Danny Wright, Mark Johnson, Rocky Biddle, and Porzio or Ginter White Sox Get: Lidle, Lilly, and Harang The A's cut salary by dumping Lidle, pick up a young, cheap, and talented #4 pitcher in Wright and a #5/relief pitcher in Biddle. plus a backup catcher and Porzio or Ginter as throw ins. they could give up Lilly and Harang cause they already have two awesome lefties in the rotation and will have four good starters for a few years after this. Harang wouldn't serve them much purpose. I would say deal them an OF, but we aren't in the position to be dealing OF at this point. And for us. We would get Lidle, who would become our #3 behind Moyer and Buehrle, moving Garland to the #4 spot. we also get two young pitchers in Lilly and Harang. Lilly is a lefty who I believe could become a solid #4 guy after another year in the minors, just to fix his arm. Harang can be up to battle with Ritchie for the #5 spot and be a good young pitcher for us for a few years. if Thomas stays, which it appears he will, we then have this for our roster. the only lefthanded hitting guy I could see out there is Finley, but he may cost too much. LINEUP 2B-Jimenez CF-Rowand DH-Thomas RF-Ordonez 1B-Konerko SS-Valentin LF-Lee 3B-Crede C-Olivo BENCH C-Paul - or we can go out and sign us a a vet like a Lampkin, Krueter or Fabregas for cheap. OF-Hollandsworth - I keep hearing jason say his name, so that could work. LF/1B/3B - Liefer INF-Graffanino 2B/CF-Harris (IF WE GO WITH JUST 11 PITCHERS) ROTATION #1-Buehrle #2-Lidle #3-Moyer #4-Garland #5-Ritchie/Harang BULLPEN CL-Foulke SM-Marte SM-Osuna RHP-Glover LHP-Wunsch LR-Harang/Ritchie LR-Lilly/Rauch (IF WE GO WITH 12 PITCHERS) not that bad of a team. I don't like Valentin batting so low in the lineup, but we have no choice. rotation looks strong too. let the criticizing begin!
  21. ordonez isn't going anywhere. that is a rumor and nothing else.
  22. I agree. we need a pitcher first and foremost. if we get a pitcher, or two (pending the quality) then we don't need anything else. catcher and center field are questionable, but I'm comfortable with Rowand. good D, hard worker, team player, and knows how to play. I could handle a catching duo of Olivo, Johnson and even Paul (if we go three men).
  23. get moyer. I'd rather give him 8 mil a season for a couple years than risk a trade and have to sign a Colon or Vasquez for 5-6 years. I think with Buehrle, Garland, Wright, Rauch, Honel, and the rest of the guys, we can have a good rotation in a few years. for now we could use a veteran like Moyer who is one of the best PITCHERS I've ever seen. of course, the key for the Sox before anything would be to sign Buehrle. They have Konerko and Ordonez, now sign Buehrle. everyone talks about signing this guy or trading for that guy. if the Sox want to show they are dedicated to winning, they'll first sign our guys. sign Buehrle, then lock up Garland next year and Crede, Jimenez, Borchard and so on.
  24. just want to welcome all the new posters.
