  1. there are two functions for the minor leagues. one is develope talent to use, the other is to develope talent to trade.
  2. and please, nobody give me that young bulls*** either. I don't want to hear how young guys don't understand. I've known how bad JR has been, and I've admitted KW's bad moves, but jesus christ, it is so damn frustrating seeing so many sox fans out there who just like to complain for fun. really, it seems that the hatred for KW has been built more on your guys continual criticism than by what he's actually done. the guy doesn't even have to make a mistake for the hatred for him to build. as people continue to talk, it gets bigger and bigger.
  3. what guys has KW given up that we should be building around? Mike Sirotka? the guy who hasn't pitched since leaving? Kip Wells? The guy who crying like a baby day after day, saying how he deserved to start despite giving up 7 runs in 2 innings? Or maybe it was....... I can't think of anyone else. Oh maybe James Baldwin. the guy who was never capable of putting one season together. I really don't get what you mean by dealing guys we should be building around. they wanted Konerko, you guys were screaming for him not to make the deal. he doesn't make the deal and you guys are upset. I'm kind of confused. Also, HSC. KW HAS NOT DEPLETED THE FARM SYSTEM!!!!!!! Who has he given up? Can someone PLEASE tell me who he has given up that was a top prospect? the only guy I can think of is Matt Guerrier. He was pretty highly touted when we dealt him, but we got Marte in the deal. Does that mean KW should keep all the young guys? see, what i don't get is the hypocrisy. if we trade a young guy, people get upset cause we are wasting our young talent. if we don't trade them, people complain that we are BUILDING again.
  4. once again HSC, this IS a message board. if we were all here just so we can doubt every possible signing and trade, it would be one crappy board. let's think and wonder for a bit, not like anybody here is gonna get worked up and dissapointed if what we say here doesn't happen. plus, it is fun to propose trades and stuff, not so much for the purpose of sox pulling off these deals, but many of us like to be pretend GM's.
  5. if Maddux signs, I don't see them moving him or Hampton. I could maybe see Millwood for the right price. Byrd or Ortiz could go, but KW made it clear he has no interest in Byrd, but also made it clear he really wanted Ortiz. it is doubtfull that any of it happens though.
  6. I'm not one to put up an argument for KW becuase I've done it plenty of times before. there are only two trades KW has made that I didn't like, the Durham and Baldwin deals. I hated giving up Sirotka, but I realized that both fans and the media were pushing him to get that proven playoff guy, which is what Wells was. the Ritchie deal was good at teh time for the fact that we were getting a guy who would be our #2, AND the fact that he will be back and could very easily pitch good while Wells tanks again. the Marte deal was good. Marte is our setup man and Guerrier is still in the minors. the Glover deal was good. Eyre pitched decent these past years, but I REALLY like Glover out of the pen. the Olivo deal was even. Bradford was one of my favorite pitchers, but Olivo is our catcher of the future. the Harris deal could be good. Singleton is where nowadays? the Osuna deal was good. he pitched decent last season. we got Majewski back too, until recently losing him, but we could still get him back. the Jimenez deal was good. he will be playing second and leading off. the Lofton, Alomar, and Howry deals were all relitively good. the one thing I don't understand though, more than anything else, is the fact that people claim KW dismantled the team. I don't get that? I don't get how people say he traded away out farm. I don't get that either. this in no way shows KW has being a good GM, but he isn't bad. Also, sorry if you said any of this jas. I'm once again too lazy to read the posts. lol
  7. umm you missed the point LDF. the point is every damn mistake is attributed to Williams. whether he did or didn't do this move, he was gonna ripped on. damn, you guys want to hate him, okay, but don't just blame him just to blame him.

    Valentin

people talk as if Valentin's errors in 2000 helped us. THEY DIDN'T. we just had a great offense, deep rotation, a strong bullpen to make up for it. if great things happen around a player, the performance of that player, no matter how bad, won't have an effect. things clicked in 2000. we didn't lose in 2001 cause Clayton was at short, as much as people want to believe. we lost in 2001 because we simply weren't that good. we got extremely lucky in 2000. in 2001 our pitchers got hurt, Thomas was out, and guys simply came back down to earth. I will accept Valentin at short this year. reason is because we aren't gonna deal him and I feel comfortable with Jimenez, Crede and Olivo in the infield now. they are much better than what we had the past couple years and will make up for Valentin's pitiful glove.
  9. THANK YOU CERB. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to say that. You may think KW is a bad GM, but all you guys were saying is how stupid he would be if he traded Konerko for Ortiz, KNOWING that the Giants wouldn't accept anything less. and then get upset when we don't land him?
  10. lol oh, sorry, not you. I meant Spataro, his name is BJ.
  11. well, in an interview with CLTV, KW did slip and say they talked to the Expos and then proceeded to say how he shouldn't of said anything and ended up leaving, at least from what I heard. Plus, he's been bugging the Expos for a couple months now and has been dealing with Minyana via phone as opposed to in person. that is if you were to think the sox were that mystery team.
  12. you guys are living too much in 2001. seriously, Lee was a solid defensive player in 2000, was bad in 2001, and was solid again this past season. people just continually remember 2001 and the constant mistakes he made. he wasn't bad in 2002, especially since he was playing left field, not a position for defensive wizards.
  13. lol, doesn't that make sense though HSC? if we were deal Konerko for Ortiz? I think that would be the most reasonable way, outside of them adding Bonds.
  14. I'll say this, if he wants Ortiz bad enough and the Giants want to dump salary and get Konerko, do this. Trade them Konerko for Ortiz and Snow and have them pay 2 million of Snow's salary. that way we add 2 mil in payroll and they cut off 2 mil. they get the first baseman they want to bat behind Bonds. and we get a strong #2 pitcher, which will in return make Garland #3, Wright #4, and Rauch #5. we also wouldn't have keep Ritchie, so there is more salary, but it looks as if he's staying. we also get a GREAT defensive first baseman, who will help guys like Crede and Jimenez (I won't say Valentin cause I don't know who in the world can help him lol) PLUS, if he's healthy could give us 15 homers and 80-90 RBI. not a bad deal if you think about it. sure would suck to lose Konerko though.
  15. KW said in October that the progress Lee made in the second half, it would be very hard to trade him. It is pretty obvious KW wanted Thomas to sign elsewhere so he can have the cash to spend on pitcher. NOW, that Thomas is back, he needs to trade someone to add salary. See, the Konerko for Ortiz rumor is the big rumor, but that is only logical if Snow is added, because the Giants want to dump salary, BUT the sox can't "afford" to add any either. The Lee and minor leaguer for Ortiz seems much more logical cause their salaries are even, but then again, the Giants want to dump salary. very very weird. I think if KW had his way, he would deal Thomas for Ortiz. just that he wants a pitcher, and it could very well cost us Konerko and money.
  16. unless of course Snow is thrown in. then in that case we would have us an extra 4 million in salary with the Giants losing 4 million. do we want to add 4 mil in salary? I think the Sox would feel more comfortable with Liefer at first than throwing Snow out there for close to 7 mil. then again, all depends how bad they want Ortiz. this whole trade is very weird though. it can't be Konerko for Ortiz straight up unless we pay for AT LEAST 2 mil of Konerko's salary, which at that point would make the deal a complete joke.
  17. I wouldn't call Konerko bad. this is a pretty even deal when basing on talent. We are giving up a .290, 30 HR, 100 RBI guy for a 15 win, 4.25, 200+ inning pitcher who is just 28. I really like Konerko and I think he's a great publicity guy for this team, but pitching is pitching, and I think I could handle losing our #5 hitter for a #2 pitcher and a first baseman with a great glove and, IF HEALTHY, a solid 80-90 RBI bat. if that deal were to go down, and Snow is HEALTHY, I could deal with it. we would be losing 15 RBI or so, but would gain a 15-win pitcher.
  18. sorry wite, I made the same exact post as you, didn't read all of them before I posted.
  19. OR, we can sign David Ortiz, IF he can play first. IF he can, losing Konerko wouldn't be so bad. 20. jeff liefer will go to first. him, Thomas, and Lee will platoon. When Liefer is at first, Thomas will DH and Lee in left. When liefer is in left, Thomas will play first and Lee DH. and so on.
  21. hey BJ, what's up man? haven't seen you in awhile. everything alright?
  22. I don't think what he said was trash talk. all he said was the Twins are a good team, but he doesn't like them. what is wrong with that? if the Twins take offense to that, they are some big babies or just a bunch of hard asses, like a guy who want to fight just cause you looked at him the wrong way. he didn't say anything wrong.
  23. a leadoff I believe has to have some type of speed. not blazing speed, but Jimenez-like. he has to be patient, a contact hitter, must know how to run the bases, and know how to get on base. Lee hasn't quite mastered the art of basestealing and still has a way to go to prove he can get on base consistently.
  24. sorry I moved this man, I usually don't do that. we've been publishing reports since 2001. we've had plenty of reports that were out before the official site and even the associate press (some trades, other rumors), nobody should be questioning the quality of the site. it is a shame how people make comments simply because they found out about soxnet last week, so they assume we are looking for attention. we've been around and have done all this before.
  25. Vidro isn't a leadoff hitter, he is a #2 guy, maybe #3. There are three things you hope to get out of a leadoff hitter. a guy with good speed, good baserunning skills, and patience, Vidro has none of these. I would rather have Jimenez leadoff. personally, IF we were to make a deal like this, deal Valentin for anybody. we don't have to get anything of the value, just make sure the person is cheap and somewhat usable. the point would be to dump his 5 mil in salary. throw Jimenez at short and have him leadoff. SS-Jimenez 2B-Vidro DH-Thomas RF-Ordonez 1B-Konerko LF-Liefer 3B-Crede CF-Rowand C-Olivo Once again, if this deal were to happen.
